Zgismond I (1658-1742) was the Emperor of Birodalom from 1721 until his death in 1742. Zgismond was also the Alispán of North Balaton before he accepted his role as Emperor. Concurrent to his reign as the Emperor of Birodalom, he was also the Első Nemes of the House of Esterhazy. Zgismond I was a native Balaton of the Veszprem. Zgismond's reign is known as the First Zgismondic Era and was marked by the outbreak of the Hoditok Disunity, one of the most important conflicts under a contemporary emperor.

Zgismond was born in Komaron in the Imperial Megye of North Balaton. He was born to the Alispán of West Tolna and his wife, Vilmos of West Tolna and Ilona of South Balaton. Zgismond I grew up moving around with Vilmos, who desperately attempted to seek the approval of his father, Vilmos IV. Much of Zgismond's education consisted of two important tutors that were from the Salgo Armitz and the Csongrád Mihály. Once Vilmos IV died, Vilmos of West Tolna became the heir to the throne over his older brother, László VIII.
