Giovanni Bernardino (c. August 1930 – October 1979) was an Appenninian military officer, politician and statesman who served as the fourth and final president of the People's Republic of Appennini before his death on 11th October, 1979. Before his tenure as president, he served as the Governor of Ordezo and then as a Congressional Premier under the then President Angelo Badoglio. Historically, presidents during the people's republic era of Appennini were somewhat authoritarian. Giovanni is considered to be the most authoritarian of any previous president, consolidating total power upon his ascension in 1964. His rule is also considered to be the most brutal, and was the only one with a secret police, the Department of State Security.

Bernardino was born in Mesange in the state of Apulia to a family of poor farmers. At an early age, he was passionate on writing and history. As a teenager, he wrote for the Mesange local newspaper about history within the state. During the People's Republic, Bernardino attended meetings of the Social Party of Appennini under pressure of his father.

In the midst of his waining popularity and internal support from his party, Bernardino ordered for the Social Appennini Purge. Through several staged events, Bernardino orchestrated support from fear and terror committed against the party.
