Subercaseaux is the capital of the Saint Irénée Parish in Sainte-Chloé. Designed as a planned capital of the United Provinces, Subercaseaux would serve as the capital of the United Provinces from 1945 until Subercaseaux was annexed by Sainte-Chloé in 1955.
Etymology
The name derives from the name of the Subercaseaux plantation, a plantation that existed on the site of the present town, and owned by the Subercaseaux family. In 1945, the government of the United Provinces purchased the plantation from the Subercaseaux family to build a capital city for the federation on its site, and named the town after the plantation that had existed.
