The National Assembly of Ardalia (Ardalian: Vuzst Skupstina Ardaska) is the unicameral legislature of Ardalia. It is located in Hran, the capital of Ardalia, at the National Assembly Building on Republic Square. The Assembly consists of 386 members, elected to five-year terms. Members are seated based upon the proportional vote their party received at a general election. The most recent election was held on 15 December 2019, and resulted in the Socialist Party earning a clear majority to govern without the need for a coalition, however, the Greens and Democrats have pledged to support the Government's agenda. The Official Opposition is the center-right Moderate Party.
The Premier of Ardalia is a member of the Assembly, and is appointed by the President, following an election. Constitutionally, the President is required to nominate the leader of the political party who wins a majority of seats in the National Assembly as Premier. If there is no party with a majority, the President holds an audience with the leaders of all parties represented in the Assembly and nominates the person who is most likely to command a majority in the Assembly, who is then formally elected by a simple majority of the Assembly. The current Premier is Tereza Darvas. The Premier and their Government is responsible to the Assembly.
At the beginning of each new convening of the Assembly, the deputies elect a Speaker who is in charge of directing debate and discussion in the chamber. There are 24 standing committees to debate and report on introduced bills and to supervise the activities of the Government.
