Hran is the capital and largest city of Ardalia. It is located in the X of the country, along the Y river, at the southern slope of Mount Z and is at an elevation of approximately 122 m (400 ft) above sea level. The population of the metropolitan area is over 3.1 million, approximately oone-fifth of the total population of Ardalia, while according to the 2020 census the city itself had a population of 1,868,295.
Hran has special status - it comprises a consolidated city-county (but separate from Hran County), and is divided into 17 districts. Most districts lie along the valley of the River Y, while most northern districts are situtated on the slopes of Mount Z, making Hran's geography quite diverse. Though the city proper is 712 square kilometers (275 sq. miles), the entire metro area is 3,282 square kilometers (1,267 sq. miles), resulting in the city extending over 40 kilometers (25 miles) east-west and roughly 25 kilometers (15 miles) north-south.
The city's extensive transport connections, concentration of industry, scientific, and research institutions, and industrial tradition underlie its leading economic position in Ardalia. Hran is the seat of the central government, administrative bodies, and almost all government ministries. Nearly all of the largest companies, media, and scientific institutions have their headquarters in the city. Hran is the most important transport hub in Ardalia: it is at the crossroad between eastern and western Thearea, making the area the center of the road, rail, and air networks. The city is well known for its diverse economy, high quality of life, museums, sporting, and entertainment. High-tech industries and the service sector form the two largest branches of its economy. Hran is ranked as a Beta global city.
