Path to Justice is a 2018 television series starring Kim Hye-jin as Jo Eun-Ki and Rhee Chae-Yeong as Park Soo-jin. It was originally slated to run for just a single season, however, good ratings extended its runtime and it is now the most popular show on MBS.
History
Path to Justice was originally put forward as a prospective series in 1989, however, the start of the Lost Decade and the financial difficulties experienced by the Malgravean Broadcasting Service meant that the show wasn't put into production and the show was soon forgotten about.
It remained untouched until 2012 when work on the project was discovered during prospective work on an archive project, and multiple attempts were made to try and modernise the project to suit modern audiences. In 2017 this work was completed, and work started on Path to Justice with the show being aired in 2018.
Synopsis
Path to Justice covers the journey that cases take from initial policing work, forensic investigations to the prosecution of the cases in the courts. It switches between the perspective of Jo Eun-Ki, a young prosecutor working for the judicial system in Rensk and Park Soo-jin, a forensic pathologist employed at the National Forensic Service.
Notable Path to Justice episodes explore issues in Malgravean society, such as the high pressure placed upon students during examination season which has historically led to drug use and mental health problems.
Cast/Characters
Character | Description |
---|---|
Kim Hye-jin as Jo Eun-Ki | Initially from Aurora, Jo Eun-Ki is a rookie prosecutor sent by her superiors to assist in a case involving a high-profile official from MalTra. Eun-Ki is shown early-on to be widely empathetic to the plight of victims. She is routinely underestimated due to her inexperience, however, she is showcased to have a photographic memory and her intellect often surprises many criminals which look down upon her.
In later episodes she is shown to be quite chaotic behind the wheel of her own personal car, and her personal life is used to show some aspects of the work Malgravean society does to dissuade nepotism. |
Rhee Chae-Yeong as Park Soo-jin | Park Soo-jin is an experienced forensic examiner that has worked for the National Forensic Service for a decade. Initially Soo-jin dislikes Eun-Ki due to the prosecutors early clumsy behaviour, however, after a while it is clear that she has a begrudging respect for the prosecutor and notes her intelligence and it is hinted that she prefers to work with the rookie prosecutor over more established figures. |
Eliasz Smolarek as Julian Wolanski | Julian Wolanski is a senior prosecutor at Rensk and often presents with Eun-Ki with her cases and is seen handling his own case work. It is revealed that Soo-jin and Julian don't have a friendly relationship, as the forensic examiner believes that he is too focused on a past case involving his brother. |
Oskar Brzezicki as Aleksy Fabian | Aleksy Fabian is a former police detective that works as an investigator for Eun-Ki. Aleksy is initially a bit of a hypochondriac and not entirely confident about his abilities, however, his confidence grows over the seasons. |
Izabella Paszek as Alicja Wojda | Alicja Wojda is another civil servant that works under Eun-Ki and often helps out during the course of the investigation, and it is hinted that she once worked for the SIS as her disguise work is rather good. Alicja is quite protective and even motherly towards Eun-Ki and often complains that she doesn't get enough sleep or eat enough during heavy investigations. |
Julita Rudaski as Sabina Smolak | Sabina Smolak is a former Royal Marine that now works as a police officer in Rensk. Sabina is quite enthusiastic about her work, and gets involved in a few action scenes over the course of the season. |
Rina Pontecorvo as Alessia Sparacello | Alessia Sparacello is a member of Soo-jin's team involved in both the autopsy and collecting evidence from crime scenes In an early episode she is shown to have a new family back home which is said to explain why Soo-jin is often softer towards her compared to other members. |
Seo Dal-mi as Jung Sa-ha | Jung Sa-ha is a toxicologist working for the National Forensics Service and is often relied upon to bring her skills to unlock investigations. Sa-ha is viewed as a bit odd by her fellow Malgraveans as she was born and raised in the Dornalian Republic, however, she is massively respected for her skills especially by Soo-jin and the pair have an odd friendship. |
