Equila Republic was a Republic in the Celestial Island Chain during the Classical Age. It had one of the best navies at the time and had won countless battles on the mythical continent of Iacrix. In 43 BGD, it became a pre-dominant naval power in the region. It is also reportedly the first known republic in Sparkalia.
Even though it was on the outer edges of the Celestial Island Chain, it still had threats from the other side of the chain. The Kingdom of Zōsenia was a rival to the Republic, and they had 5 wars against each other for dominance over the Sea. It was during the Selin-Dos War, which was the last war between Zōsenia and Equila, that Equila Hegemony of ruling the seas was sealed after the decisive Battle of Ocien. It would have the period called Elenchómeni Thálassa or Controlled Seas Period (19BGD-84GD). Out of all the civilizations in the Celestial Island Chain, only Equila ever tried to harness and use magic. The Equilos had a mage in almost every city, as the position was highly respected. These Mages were called Megálos Mágos or Grand Mage in Aquilan.
Geography
Located on the edge of the Solarian Tectonic Plate and the Pelia Tectonic Plate, it suffers from some tsunamis every half decade. With only a few hills that survive the tsunamis, most of them are used for agriculture and the cities. With two major rivers flowing down the only mountain, Mt. Psilósim, which the southern river, Magineró(Magical Water), goes through the capital, and the Mikriaroí river goes east into the Magna Sea. The lowest elevataion is -55ft and the highest is 2,000ft.
Mythology
The Mythology of Equila is simple tale. In 600s BGD, a Goddess called Eiríni came to the island of Equila and formed the city of Paraskínia. She guided the people through the ages, with empowering them with magic and appointing Mages to direct the people in Eirini's name. It was ruled by series of Princes and Mages for 500 years, until a foreign power called Empire of Iacrixna in 141BGD took over the island from the mythical continent of Iacrix .
It wasn't until 69BGD that Joxs Eleos persuaded the foreign powers to let his people govern themselves. This formed the Serene Republic of Equila.
History
In the 600s BGD, the city of Paraskinia was founded and was ruled by Grand Princes, with the first Grand Prince being Alexos I Estodus. Equila was ruled by Princes for almost 500 years. This period is known as the Grace Period (657BGD-141BGD). In 103BGD, the Iacrixna Empire attacked the Princedom, and during the Steel War, Princedom of Equila was defeated and annexed by the Empire of Iacrixna. During the Maraíno Period from 141BGD-69BGD, the island had prospered but also was subjugated by increase taxes and false imprisonment. It was only due to the Merchants did the island pay off the taxes. The Mythical Emperor of Iacrixna, Favis I, had built towers and walls around the island, to defend from the Sea Men.
Due to the increase taxes and increase in homelessness, the people of Equila were fed up with the nation, and demanded independence. The protests were mostly peaceful, with very few injuries and even fewer deaths. The Protesters leader was Joxs Eleos, and Eleos demanded that the people rule freely, and in exchange would pay tribute to the Empire for 30 years. Emperor Favis III, worried the protest would spring up on other areas of the Empire, agreed to the conditions on the 15 March, 69BGD.
With the independence of Equila secured, the people thought of what form of government they wanted. Some thought a return to the old princedom would increase unity, but others were tired of being ruled by heredity leaders and wanted an elected ruler. These men, called the Firebonds, were a radical political group wanting to install a republican type of government. The Firebonds suggested an elected person that has a term for 10 years, and one term only. The rest of the Council, due to the growing power of the Firebonds and not wanting another war, agreed to have a Republican government. So on the 19th of March, 69BGD, Joxs Eleos was elected the first Archon Supreme of Equila. During the Period known as the Decades Period (69BGD-55GD), Equila prospered into an economic powerhouse. It did still have to pay tribute to the Iacrixna Empire but by 39BGD, the payments ceased, and with that grew Equila wealthy and with the investments into the naval ships and transports, Equila traded all along the coasts of Iacrix. Orius Apollus was the wealthiest ruler of the Celestial Island Chain during the Period.
In 39BGD, due to the expansion of the Equilos navy, the Kingdom of Zōsenia was alarmed at the growing power of Equila and intrusion of the Direach Line on Zōsenia's part. This intrusion marked the begining of a rivalry and war for 2 decades. The Oars Wars defined who was the master of the seas. In 19BGD, Equila won the Wars and had free reign in the region.
In 12BGD, the proclamation of the Kingdom of Solarius was sent to all of the nations in the Celestial Island Chain. The current Archon Supreme at the time, Rhoda Magos, was happy about a new nation arising, but was concerned what the intentions were of this new nation, sent a letter back to the Solarian court.

Structure of Equilos Society
The Society of Equilos was a firm merit structure society. Although people are born within their classes, they can climb through upper classes due to merit and determination. There were five main classes in Equila. {1} Ploúsios (Rich) {2} Polítes (Citizens) {3} Ergátes (Labour men) {4} Agrótes (Peasents) and {5} Sklávous (Slaves). Each would be born into these five classes, and although could stay in them, was not restricted to them. A Ploúsios could be a Sklávous if they betrayed the republic or had faced major legal trouble. There was one other class that was only available through merit and not something to be born in. The Mageía class was a class that was not a birthed into one. If born from a Mage, they would be chosen to be put into and of the 5 classes and be raised in their customs.
Gender equality was present in the society, as both men and women could both become rich and own property. There was some Matriarchal families such as the Magos Clan whose founder was the 6th Archon Supreme and first Women to be leader of Equila, Rhoda Magos. Women had the right to vote, but could not serve as infantry or any close combat roles. There were Female Naval Officers such as Laura Disos, but most served as medics or siege operators. Men were still seen as more important as to the defense of the republic, but women were seen as the life of the Republic.
