The 2nd Royal Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment "Pastrengo" (Italian: 2° Reggimento Reali Carabinieri a Cavallo "Pastrengo") is a support unit of the Royal Carabinieri, tasked with supporting the whole corps through advanced patrols on impervious terrain.
The Regiment is an Institutional Observer at the General Council of the Italian Federation of Equestrianism.
Mission
The 2nd Royal Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment "Pastrengo" is tasket to support the territorial organisation of the Royal Carabinieri through patrols and intervention in impervious areas as well as in city parks.
The Regiment also supports the Forestry Division and the maintenance of the public order, providing a mounted elemen capable of breaking assembled and seditious crowds.
Organisation
The 2nd Royal Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment "Pastrengo" consists of 1341 Royal Carabinieri:
- Command and Support Squadron (head-quartered in Rome);
- 1st Carabinieri Cavalry Squadrons Group "Federico da Montefeltro" (head-quartered in Rome): it is organised into three Squadrons (based in Cagliari, Palermo and Bari) and used in order to reinforce public order services as well as for operations in rural areas;
- 2nd Royal Carabinieri Cavalry Squadrons Group "Giovanni dalle Bande Nere" (head-quartered in Milan): it is organised into three Squadrons (based in Milan, Florence and Padua) and used in order to reinforce public order services as well as for operations in rural areas;
- 3rd Royal Carabinieri Students Squadrons Group "Giovanni Acuto" (head-quartered in Rome).
Regimental Command
The Regimental Command has the traditional subdivisions of the Personnel, Operations Training Information, Logistics, Administrations and Health Sections. The Commander controls the three Squadrons Groups. The Training Squadrons Group, led by a field officer, provides recruitment, selection and training of the personnel of all ranks. This ensures a standard training. At full forces, the Regimental Command and the Command Squadron consist of 191 Royal Carabinieri.
1st Squadrons Group "Federico da Montefeltro"
The 1st Squadrons Group "Federico da Montefeltro" is based in Naples and it is used in order to reinforce public order services as well as for operations in rural areas in central and southern Italy. The Squadrons Group actively cooperates with the 3rd Royal Carabinieri Support Regiment "Volturno" to track down fugitives and criminals. The 1st Squadrons Group "Federico da Montefeltro" consists of of 325 Royal Carabinieri:

- 2nd Cavalry Squadron "Antonino Alessi" (Palermo)

2nd Squadrons Group "Giovanni dalle Bande Nere"
The 2nd Squadrons Group "Giovanni dalle Bande Nere" is based in Milan and it is used in order to reinforce public order services as well as for operations in rural areas in central and northern Italy. The 2nd Squadrons Group "Giovanni dalle Bande Nere" consists of 325 Royal Carabinieri:
- Command Platoon "Giovanni dalle Bande Nere"
- 4th Cavalry Squadron "Fortunato Arena" (Milan)
- 5th Cavalry Squadron "Alfredo Beni" (Florence)
- 6th Cavalry Squadron "Antonio Bonsignore" (Padua)
3rd Royal Carabinieri Students Squadrons Group "Giovanni Acuto"
The 3rd Royal Carabinieri Students Squadrons Group "Giovanni Acuto" is the training element of the 2nd Royal Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment "Pastrengo" and of the whole corps. The unit is based in Rome). The Squadrons Group is tasked with managing the two Training Squadrons and the two support Squadrons. In order to accomplish these duties, its Command Platoon is more oriented towards administrative activities. At full force, the 3rd Royal Carabinieri Students Squadrons Group "Giovanni Acuto" consists of 500 Royal Carabinieri:
- 3rd Royal Carabinieri Students Squadrons Group "Giovanni Acuto";
- 7th Royal Carabinieri Training Squadron;
- 8th Royal Carabinieri Training Squadron;
- 9th Royal Carabinieri Support Squadron: logistics support;
- 10th Royal Carabinieri Command and Signals Squadron: communications support;
- 11th Royal Carabinieri Honour and Demonstrations Squadron;
- Royal Carabinieri Equestrianism Section
In case of necessity, the Squadrons Group may be requested to deploy its Squadrons for public order services in Rome, always supported by adequate reinforcements.
Squadrons Group Command Platoon
The Command Platoon has a limited operational capability to make tactical plans, with a Tactical Command and Pianification Squad, a Specialist Training Squad and of a Proximity Support Section (in charge of weapons and vehicles). The Command Platoon traditionally includes the Squadrons Group Commander and consists of 46 troops:
- Squadrons Group Commander
- Tactical Command and Pianification Squad: Squadrons Group Deputy Commander, Adjutant Major, 4 x Subofficers, 4 x Carabinieri
- Platoon Commander (usually a senior Subofficer)
- Command Squad: 1 Brigadier Trumpeter, Health Appointee, 6 x Carabinieri
- Signals Squad: 1 Brigadier, 4 x Appointees, 8 x Carabinieri
- Proximity Support Section: 1 Brigadier, 4 x Appointees, 8 x Carabinieri
Cavalry Squadron
Each Cavalry Squadron consists of a Command Squad and four small Cavalry Platoons:
- Command Squad: Squadron Commander; Adjutant; 2 x Scouts; Trumpeteer;
- Cavalry Platoon: Platoon Commander, 3 x Subofficers; 18 x Carabinieri
- Cavalry Platoon: Platoon Commander, 3 x Subofficers; 18 x Carabinieri
- Cavalry Platoon: Platoon Commander, 3 x Subofficers; 18 x Carabinieri
- Cavalry Platoon: Platoon Commander, 3 x Subofficers; 18 x Carabinieri
