The Lydner people (Katranjian: Лйдински, Lydinski, Desert Auregan: Searcsenaigh), or the Desert Auregans, are an ethnic group descended from immigrants from the Auregan state of Lydn to Katranjiev who arrived in the 1870s to escape the Auregan famine, and were attracted to the Genida desert due to a discovery of phosphate in the region.
Etymology
The term Lydners derives from the fact that most of the Lydners originated from the Auregan state of Lydn, which was affected by the Auregan famine. It was believed that the term was first used to refer to the present-day ethnic group in 1889, when a government official said that "the Desert Auregans have a different attitude than the Auregans on our coast: while the Auregans on our coast tend to integrate into their surroundings, while keeping some of their heritage, these Lydners seem determined to not adopt our culture."
The term, Desert Auregans (Katranjian: Пустинята орегани, Pustinni oregani) derives from the fact that they all originated in Aurega, and settled in both the Genida Desert in the southeastern duchies, and the Kretszkebòwo Desert in Sekhessia.

Geography
Many of the Lydners have traditionally lived in the Genida Desert and Sekhessia, with the 2015 Katranjian census listing 172,946 Lydners residing in the duchies of Talnakh, Genalzim, Kamuk, and Chavdarov and 39,385 people living in Sekhessia, while 9,859 live in other areas, mostly Desislav and Krasimir.
In addition, there has always been a traditional return migration of Lydners to Aurega, with records of return migration dating back to the 1890s.
