The Aitic Union (Poicarian: Aitiinen Liito) is a sovereign, socialist state in Northern TBA, which consists primarily of East Poicary (Poicarian People's Republic), as well as the other Aitic nations of Naanet People's Republic, Uiraat People's Republic and the Vogiil and Jahnen People's Republics. It was founded in 1913 following the Poicarian Peasant Uprising, which established a Claguist-Toivonist single party state and began the Poicarian Civil War.
Despite losing much of its territory over the course of the 20th Century, the Aitic Union remains the largest state in Regnum by land area, and is primarily made up of Aitic peoples, a variety of distinct ethnicities which draw shared lineage from the central Aitic Mountains. It shares a western border with Poicary and southern border with Sarvatia.
Etymology
The word Aitic refers to the Aitic mountains, which run north-south on the western border of the Aitic Union, from which the Aitic Peoples are named, and from which is constructed the joint national framework of the Aitic Union. After the Poicarian Peasant Uprising, the "father of the revolution" Lahti Toivonen, proclaimed the Revolutionary Democratic Union of the Poicarian People, which after annexing the surrounding Aitic minorities, expanded the name in 1916 to the Revolutionary Democratic Union of the Poicarian, Naanets, Surainnen, Uiraat, Vogiil and Jahnen People which was then itself changed in 1917 to the Democratic Union of Aitic Peoples.
History
Prehistory
Poicarian Empire
Under the reign of King Fredrik Kaarle, the Kingdom of Poicary in Viida was proclaimed an empire in 1781. Kaarlist Poicary invaded and subjugated many of the surrounding Aitic and other nations, growing to one of the largest regional powers in Erisia by the 19th Century, although it was still an entirely agrarian economy considered an economic backwater by most in Erisia.
Poicarian Peasant Uprising
Following mass starvation and social unrest following the 1910-12 drought, a mass uprising of peasants in the Poicarian Empire led to the overthrow of the ruling Kaarle dynasty, and their subsequent deaths or exile to Vierzland. What subsequently followed was a brutal civil war which lasted until 1913 to 1917, between the Poicarian Red Army (later Aitic Red Army) and the Poicarian Legion, which sought to repatriate the Kaarle family. The Red Army was initially supported by various democratic and anarchist elements, however by 1916 much of these had been either destroyed by the Red Army or associated themselves with the Poicarian Legion.
