The Commonwealth Armed Forces (CAF) are the military forces of the Commonwealth of Haltoria. The armed forces consists of the branches: the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Border Guard, and Coast Guard. All six are part of the uniformed services of the Commonwealth of Haltoria.
The Commonwealth Armed Forces traces its roots to the Royal Haltorian Armed Forces, established formally in the 1518, in the Kingdom of Haltoria. The Royal Armed Forces were dissolved at the end of the Kingdom of Haltoria in [date]. In 1908, following the independence of Haltoria, the various new states formed their own armed forces, most notably Osea, Erusea, and Belka, all three of which would fight in the Second Great War. In 1960 these various militaries were merged with the creation of the Confederate Republics. In 1961 the new CAF would face its first threat, with the Sino-Haltorian Border War in 1961, expanding into the Third Chinese Civil War from 1961-1965. At the end of the Civil War, the CAF was downsized, with many army and air force units forming new Republic Defence Forces, under the overall control of the federal military in wartime. The CAF and RDFs would fight Czeily again in the Three Days War, Unsung War, and Third Great War. After the end of the Third Great War, the Confederate system was replaced when Haltoria federalized, and the Confederate Armed Forces and Republic Defence Forces merged to form the Commonwealth Armed Forces.
The Commonwealth Armed Forces is one of the largest and most powerful standing armed forces in the world with almost 2.4 million active personnnel in 2023, drawing from a large pool of volunteers and conscripts serving 2-3 years of active service in the enlisted ranks. It is capable of mobilizing over 3 million ready and inactive reservists in the event of national exigencies or full-out war. Haltoria maintains military service since 2023, with draftees serving 6 months of military training, 2-3 years of active service, 2 years of ready reserve, and inactive reserve service until age 50. The military expenditure of the CAF was $840 billion CHD in 2023, the second-highest in the world.
