The United Monarchy of New North Yorkshire is a mid-sized country located on the central west coast of the continent of Atracia in Anteria. The state was formed in 1898 after disagreements with Wolfgalia on how to best run a Galea Tribe nation. The Galea Tribe members north of the dividing river (present day Yorke-Wolf River) were never happy with status as an Astari protectorate, and when Wolfgalia was formed in 1832, to prevent themselves from falling further into the Wolfgalia style of running the Galea Tribe, refused to join the nation and declared the land north of the river a separate territory. This territory existed independently all the way through 1895, when the members of the tribe decided to form a nation to keep up with the requirements of the modern world. Wolfgalia, not happy with this, attempted to claim the northern Galea territory as part of Wolfgalia, leading to a four year war for independence. New North Yorkshire successfully battled for independence, and in 1898 declared itself an independent nation called New North Yorkshire. The nation adopted naming schemes from the English language over Galee to separate itself from its neighbor and enemy to the south, and has since grown into a strong, significant nation in Anterian world politics.
Demographics
Language
There are many languages used across Wolfgalia, but the overwhelming majority of citizens speak both English and Galee, the original language of the Galea Tribe. A majority of citizens speak both languages, and approximately half of citizens speak Spanish, carried over during trade and imperialism. Under a quarter of citizens speak a language found outside of New North Yorkshire. It is strongly recommended that all foreign immigrants speak or learn either English or Galee, but it is not required. Most New North Yorkshire companies and organizations are willing to accommodate for foreign language speakers.
People
The ethnic makeup of New North Yorkshire consists mostly of Galea Tribe natives as well as some minor Astariaxi background, but there are large groups of other ethnicities across New North Yorkshire. The largest city in New North Yorkshire, Estadà, has the largest melting pot of ethnicities in the nation.
