The 44th Laser Corps is a military unit of the Velikoslavia devoted to the research of, development, and testing, and deployment of laser weapons. The unit traces its heritage back to the Institute of High Sciences, a known black laboratory located in the remote Arktion region. It was officially established within the institute in 1965 and was officially split off as a formal military unit in 1978. The unit, though classified as a unit within the military, is outside of the normal military chain of command and has a high number of contracted civilian personnel. It currently has no current active combat formations under its command, as eventually units utilizing laser weapons will be trained under the 44th and moved to other units. Up until 2016, it had one single formation, the 15th "Blinder" Platoon under its command featuring four experimental vehicles.
