History of Riamo

The history of Riamo dates to the Antiquity when the pre-hiraethian peoples on the northern coasts of the Nostrian Sea made contact with the proto-hoterallian peoples, and the first writing systems known as Paleoriamese scripts were developed. During Classical Antiquity, the region that today encompasses Riamo was the site of multiple successive colonizations of Hiraethians, Gallese, Proto-hoterallians and multiple other smaller unorganized tribes and peoples. Native peoples of the region, such as the Lozas, intermingled with the colonizers to create a uniquely Riamese culture. The Hiraethians referred to the region as Ryamania, from where the modern name of Riamo originates. The region was divided up, at various times, into different Hiraethian provinces. As was the rest of the Hirethian Empire, Riamo was subject to the numerous invasions of Proto-nostrian tribes during the 4th and 5th centuries CE, resulting in the loss of Hiraethian rule and the establishment of Nostrian kingdoms, most notably the Fawlls and the Galls, marking the beginning of the Middle Ages in Riamo.

Great War

Riamese imperial authorities saw the defeats against the then-technologically superior Vultesians and a long-coming rivalry was once again awoken as the century turned. By the 1910s, Riamo found itself annexing many of the smaller colonies of the empire, in an attempt to consolidate power against the Vultesians, with Riamese euthority in the Unhak Islands and Freice also being reinforced.

The eastern front of the war started as Riamo invaded Leogria. This came as part of a wider plan from the Riamese government, which had staged several false flag border incidents as a pretext to initiate the invasion. Years after the war, several witnesses and supporters of the government point towards the premeditated creation of a sense of cross-border partnership towards the empire as to provide an effective base for several (specially maritime) border disputes to be brought up by the Riamese authorities to the international stage.

The Admiralty's plan was to seize most of the lands surrounding mainland Riamo to create a large defensive perimeter stretching to the Unhak islands. The Riamese would then be free to exploit the resources of the region while exhausting the over-stretched Alliance by fighting a defensive war. To prevent Vultesian intervention while securing the perimeter, it was further planned to neutralise the Nostrian Fleet of Zona Umida and the Umidan-controlled military presence in the central Nostrian Sea from the outset. On 7 December XXXX, Riamo attacked Gavrilian and Umidan holdings with near-simultaneous offensives against the Nostrian and the western Hirethian regions. These included an attack on the Gavrilian fleets at the Unhak Islands at Santa Cruz and Aurora, as well as coastal presence in Puerto Princesa and the Black River delta, and Umidan possitions in the Nostrian Island, New Olchester and the southernmost important port areas of the country.

The Vultesian Empire responded with an ultimatum to Riamo to cease military operations, and on 3 XX, after the ultimatum was ignored, Gavrilia and Vultesia declared war on Riamo. They would be followed by other countries as the war continued. While the alliance provided no direct military support to Gavrilia, the pact would be followed by a mutual cooperation alliance, which also began a naval blockade of Riamo. This blockade never materialized as both fleets had been rendered useless by the Riamese initial efforts, but it would soon lead to an open use of submarine warfare against the attackers, which aimed to damage the country's economy and the war effort. Riamo responded by ordering large scale mine-placing operations warfare against Allied merchant and warships, which would later escalate into the Battle of the Nostrian.

Once on the throne in the 1930s, King Frederick's first years as monarch were inconsequential, with the Black Decade raging on and quality of life plummeting in the mainland as the once-grand Riamese Empire fell on its feet.

Dark Decades

Coinciding with the reign of King Frederick, the Dark decades were 32 years spamming from 1940 to 1972 which saw the decadence of the Riamese overseas empire quickly followed by a strong decay in riamese culture. The mainland saw the emergence of the Dictatorship of Stoneck, cored around an anti-western way of thought. It was mainly fueled by both the colonialist mentality to expand the collapsing empire and the desire to fix core issues of the nation, which included a strong economical decadence, a drop in societal values, the emergence of many economical monopolies and a drop in national wealth.

By the 1950s however, Frederick had started using the constitution on his favor, making a puppet of the former Riamese Parliament and its successive Prime Ministers while slowly encompassing all political power of the nation under his arms. During this time, Frederick had engineered a complex system of faulty alliances as a last attempt to save the Riamese Empire from collapse, but ultimately, he would inevitable lead the nation through the dying stages of the Empire.

The decade saw a political shift into a pre-arranged "caciquism" bipartidism, passively overlooked by Frederick as more and more public money was pulled into upper class and royal pockets. He would use these years to slowly gain more and more political power, eventually having more duties than the president itself. This, however, would change in 1966, when a series of poor legislation prompted the appearance of very violent events in the industrial cities of eastern Riamo, lead by the Namese Liberation Front (NLF), which was followed by the deployment of security forces across the region.

By the 1960s, The cultural clashes between the Riamese and Namese evolved into large scale protests and, soon enough, terrorist attacks, favoring the independence of the Namese nation. The violent attacks on Namese protestors, as well as the tense political situation lived daily in the Parliament, evolved into a full-out localized rebellion in Nam, where barbaric war crimes were committed in several occasions in an attempt to stop the rebellion.

Frederick would be the head behind the "Black Nights" massacres in late 1967, which would mark the start of a violence streak in eastern Riamo marked by bombings and terrorist assaults on armed forces personnel throughout the following years. By 1968, and after several months of violent events, militant groups appeared in the dense forests of Riamo lead by fled leaders of NFL, and not long after, the government would officially mark the groups as terrorist organizations, imprisoning even non-combatant members of the NFL in high political posts.

Frederick would use the crisis to consolidate power under his arm even further, becoming the unofficial leader of the nation and disregarding the president completely by 1971, moment by when he likely authorized napalm to be used against the NFL, with large-scale bombing being first sighted by late 1972.

By 1973 the crisis reached a peak, with Diana II leaving the country and going to other nations in hopes to amend the situation with external help, with no avail, and eventually visiting hospitals in Nam against the will of her own father. The pictures of Diana hugging NFL soldiers would become famous, quickly granting her fame and support both inside Riamo and internationally, and for this she would be sentenced to home prision in May 1973. With more strikes happening because of it, Frederick would survive two assassination attempts between May and October 1973, fleeing the country on November 3rd 1973 but being assassinated in Vultesia two days later.

Diana II would ascend to power and would successfully reunite the broken Riamese society under her tutelage, with Frederick being remembered as the worse head of state in Riamo since medieval ages.

Regenerationism

Lead by initiative of her majesty Queen Diana I, Riamo would soon follow the Gavrilian school of thought of Regenerationism. Many oligarchic ideas were soon phased out with the creation of a more stable government, formed by Elisabeth Wooden-led federalist government.

Diana I would ensure peace on the Namese Issue and would oversee the making of a new constitution in 1977, celebrated by many for introducing the new Federal system, inspired on that of the First Republic era. By embracing this school of thought, the country would finally close its imperial stage, leading the guided release of many nations into full sovereignty and allowing many lands to decide their own fates through consensus and dialogue.

Federation

Created through the Constitution of 1977, the Federal era gave way to a chapter of massive development within the nation, with many former colonies now forming healthy ties with the mainland and many others rejecting entirely any possible friendship in fear of history repeating itself.
