The 2020 Ørdegnien presidential election was held on 14 May 2020. The incumbent President, independent Johan Olsson, was elected to a full, six-year term, with 71.1% of the popular vote. He defeated former People's Party leader, Valdemar Söderberg. It was the fifteenth direct election for the Ordennyan Presidency, and the first Presidential election in which there were only two candidates for the position, as well as the first election to only have a single round of voting. Ordennya uses the two-round system for Presidential elections, but as only two candidates were nominated, only one round was held. Turnout was 59%, as unlike federal parliamentary elections, voting in Presidential elections is not compulsory.

Background

The previous election, held in 2014, saw the re-election of President Neo Isaksson to a second six-year term. Isakson would, however, die in office in 2019. Under the Ordennyan Constitution, the Prime Minister has the power to fill a Presidential vacancy with any individual of their choosing, so long as they meet the requirements of the office. As such, the Prime Minister, Clas Markussen, appointed the Chairperson of the Senate, Johan Olsson, to serve the remainder of Isaksson's term. Leading up to the election, there was speculation as to whether Olsson would run for a full term or seek retirement. When Olsson declared his intention to run for a full term, he received the backing of four of the six political parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies; the Greens, Labour, the Liberals, and the New Democrats. His only challenger for the position was OFP candidate and former Deputy Prime Minister, Valdemar Söderberg, who also had the backing of the Conservative Party.
