The Volksberg (Heidish for "People's mountain"), formerly known as the Höheglatze ("bald height"), is a mountain in southwest Heideland, in the province of Fürstenbach. It is the high point of the Kiefernwald Hügel that dominates the centre of the province, and its elevation of 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) makes it the highest point in Heideland.
The summit is marked by telecommunication masts and a lodge that dates to 1922. The mountain was in private ownership before the Heidish Revolution and used as a retreat by the members and friends of the wealthy Sassburger family, whose chief estates straddled the Cassonnaise-Heidish border. During the revolution, the family's holdings were seized, including the mountain itself. In 1941, it was renamed Volksberg, the People's Mountain, from its former name, Hochglatze, the "bald height," which referenced the lack of tree cover on its bare, rocky summit.
