Kyznetsia, officially the Federal Republic of Kyznetsia (Kyznic: “Savezna Republika Kiznjecija”) is a country on the Kzetchen Peninsula in the southern regions of the continent of Argis. The country is bordered by Hinteria to the northwest, Dazhdinia to the northeast, the Kezanoi Sea to the west, the Green Sea to the east, and the expansive Qingming Sea to the south. The longest river is the Safirava, on which the important economic port of Patensk lies, and the highest point is Vještičji Prst, the Witches Finger, found in the Bijelog-Bodeža mountains. It is divided into sixteen administrative states, covering an area of 273,795 km2. Kyznetsia has an estimated population of around 14.9 million people, of which 1.1 million people live in its largest city, Laprotnik. Presdnat is the nation's capital, administrative and religious centre and second-largest city. Other major cities include Stavoy, Baracheski, Kyzgorod and Patensk.

Etymology

(WIP. Where does your country's name come from? Most RL national names come from a small variety of choice. Some examples: land of a tribe (ex. France, Persia, Mongolia, Russia), characteristic geography (ex. Netherlands, India, Morocco), an old ruler or religious figure (ex. Philippines, San Marino, Europa, Saudi Arabia), the Latin description of a place (ex. Australia, Argentina, Liberia). How is the name pronounced? How is the name translated into other languages?)

Geography

Kyznetsia occupies a large portion of the Kzetchian Peninsula (referred to as simply the peninsula by most Kyznet) and two islands in the Qingming, Lopalagruza and Lastranovo. Its location, size, climate and natural resources make Kyznetsia very geographically diverse, as well as being very topographically diverse. It includes hills, mountains, plains, scrubland, shrubland, woodlands and forests. Elevation ranges from the central mountain range of the Bijelog-Bodeža, with it's highest peak Vještičji Prst standing at 1,810 metres (5,983.ft), outwards to the shores of the Kezanoi, Intria, Green and Qingming Seas.

The Safirava River, Kyznetsias largest, empties into the Kezanoi Sea and has a dense and complex drainage basin which stretches through a series of major valleys throughout the western reaches of the Peninsula. It effectively splits the north from the south and due to it's size and length, and is home to some of the most fertile and arable land, a sizeable portion of which is used for vineyards producing the world famous wine Vino-Bielodina.

Climate

Kyznetsia has primarily a warm-summer !Mediterranean climate, experiencing warm and dry summers ranging from 18 to 24 °C during its warmest summer month, and typically 18 to -4 °C in its coldest month. Winters are often rainy and mild to chilly, depending on proximity to the coast. Snow is uncommon, even during the coldest month of the year. The western coastal region of Dvorište-Vinoveloze experiences temperatures that routinely exceed 22 °C and typically enjoys very hot and dry summers with mild or cool winters; again rarely seeing snow in the winter months.

History

(WIP. How did your current country come to be? What were the country's previous incarnations? Was the country part of a union with a neighbour? Which events shaped the way the country is today?)

Politics

Secretary-General Andrija Sholokhov.

Kyznetsia is a directorial, federal, presidential republic, with a diarchy sharing executive power between the President of the Republic and the Secretary-General of the Defense Forces. These highest positions of state make up the Joint Office of Governance. The legislative body is the Federal Assembly, comprised of the bicameral lower house, the National Council, and the upper house, the Senatorial Committee.

The legislative body is the bicameral Federal Assembly. It is comprised of the proportionally representative lower house, the National Council, and the upper house, the Senatorial Committee, which has two senators representing each of the sixteen states, as well as one each for the two island dependencies and one from the Autonomous District of Ivona. Both houses share identical powers, and any law must pass both houses before it be officially passed. The two houses may unify as the Unified Federal Assembly in certain circumstances, such as to elect a Prime Minister who heads the Assembly, electing federal judges or in times of national emergency.

The Joint Office of Governance is the executive body, and is split between the President of the Republic and the Secretary-General of the Defense Forces, who are both elected in a two-round system of voting every four years. However, whereas the President is elected by all eligible voters (not prisoners or under 18 year olds), the Secretary-General can only be elected through votes from veterans or currently serving members of the Military. In practice, this means that only around 28% of the population can vote for half of the executive leadership of the nation. Due to regulated, but rather weakly enforced, conscription, these numbers are higher than you would typically imagine for a nation.

Immediately beneath the President is the Vice-President who will take over in times of insuitabily, ill health or death; and beneath the Secretary-General is the Deputy Secretary-General who will carry out a similar role. This ensures that the death or incapacitation of one half does not lead to either executive taking absolute power. Nominally, the Vice-President heads the Council of Representatives which are the cultural heads of the region, and the Deputy Secretary-General will oversee the Internal Security forces of the nation. The President also has a Higher Cabinet made up of his closest advisors and powers of state, and the Secretary-General has the Security Council which fills a similar role.

The Federal Supreme Court of Kyznetsia is the supreme court of the Republic and is the head of the Kyznet judiciary system. It's acts as the final decision making body on disputes in civil, citizen or state law and protects the rights that citizens have under the Second Constitution.

Economy

In simple terms, Kyznetsia is split between it's agricultural west, tourism south, forestry east and its heavily industrialised north.

Agriculture is largely based on small to medium-sized family-owned units, but does include larger scale state owned intensive farming mainly used for export. The country produces a number of different crops and livestock products including apples, apricots, dates, grapes, melons, oranges, peaches, wheat, barley, maize, olives, dairy products, poultry and beef. The country is one of the largest exporters of wine, olive oil, cork and pulp.

Tourism accounts for up to 12% of the countries GDP, rapidly growing in the late 2010s and attracting 9 million visitors each year. Most of the tourist industry is concentrated along the western coast, as well as Kyznetsia’s two islands. Resorts continue to spring up, catering to mass, nautical and cultural tourism, as well as a few mountain resorts and spas.

Forestry accounts for 6% of the economy and is heavily regulated to ensure no deforestation, and has played an important economic role in rural communities since the early 1920s.

Shipbuilding is a large industry on the shores of the Intria Sea, both civil and military, and is supported by a comprehensive network of grade one and grade two electric railroads. Asphalt, steel and cement production are large secondary industries and account for 8% of the GDP.

Demographics

Ethnic groups

Throughout their history, despite the general homogenisation of the national identity of native Kyznet citizens, cultural and ethnic differences were still prevalent amongst the population. It was only after Anglish sailors in Hinteria started referring to the region as “Kyznetsia”, ergo land of the Kyznet, that the name caught on. The Kyznet people, although the largest denomination, are one of four main ethnic groups native to the Kzetchian Peninsula and are collectively known as ethnic Ljudizkyzn. “Kyznet” is now the common colloquial term to refer to anybody from Kyznetsia, however, those who are native still prefer the term “Ljudiz”.

Around 84% of the nation's residents are ethnically Ljudizkyzn. This ethnic group can be further broken down into the regional ethnicities of Kyznet 49%, Surgovs 32%, Kurzkzens 10%, and Morvsiak 5%, with the remaining minority groups comprising the leftover 4%. The majority of these groups occupy the north, west and southern boundaries of the nation, historically the most fertile, resource-rich and usable land in the country. The only exception is the Kurzkens, who are geographically isolated by the north-south running Bijelog-Bodeža mountain range and border near Dazhdinia to the northeast. Foreign nationals live primarily in the ten largest cities of the nation and makeup 16% of the nation's ethnicity, and are refered to as Autsajderi, meaning 'outsiders'.

Language

The official language of Kyznetsia is Kyznic and is spoken by 93% of all ethnic Ljudizkyzn, although there are also numerous recognised languages across the nation including Surgorov, Kurzk Morvsiak and Chenyrosk, as well as further seventeen minor historical, regional languages.

Religion

One of the few unifying factors across all ethnic groups in Kyznetsia is the recognised state religion of Presnetarianism, of which 86% of Ljudizkyzn follow.
