Pervincia, officially the Republic of Pervincia, is an island nation in the Acadian Ocean. It also includes territory on the Elisian mainland which is bordered by Routsaland and unclaimed land -istan. It is historically connected to Elisia due to it's Nordesian heritage and later Supero Omnian colonization. The capital of Pervincia is Pervincia City and it's largest city is Silverlight. The official languages of the country are Pervincian Nordesian and Ziromnian.

History

Prehistory

Archeological findings indicate that the islands of Pervincia had been inhabited by groups of arctic nomads. This society has been dubbed the "Hreindýrafólk". Tools and structures found reveal that the hreindýrafólk used caribou bone tools and caribou skin for clothes and building, they ate mostly those caribou and seal and whale meat, along with seabirds and fish.

The earliest carbon dated artifacts have put the arrival of the hreindýrafólk into Pervincia at around 1000BCE. They had mostly disappeared from the islands by the first Nordesian arrivals, with a few pockets left around the edge of the southern plains. The collapse is believed to have been due to warming sea waters causing ice to not last long enough for seasonal crossings.

Middle Ages

Höfðingi Era

After the collapse of the Pervincian Commonwealth local höfðingi, chieftain, became the primary power in Pervincia.

Late Colonial Period

Acadian War

Beginning on the 10th of August 1895 the Fourth Aquatilean Empire attempted an invasion of Supero Omnian Pervincia. [tba]

The Pervincian War of Independence is considered to have officially begun on the 15th of December 1956 following the Slaughter of Randos.

Post Independence and Civil War

Nationbuilding

Following the signing of the Treaty of Lepus Karvel Valgarðsson became the King of Pervincia and oversaw the election of an Assembly. The new state's initial goal was the creation of a solid constitution and truly putting an end to the fighting related to the War of Independence.

One of the last actions of the Commonwealth and the Provisional Government was to deploy nationalist forces into South Sacenbridge in order to put a stop to the fighting between the socialists in the north and the Supero Omnian forces still in the mountains, many of which were either not aware that the war was over or refused to give in. Following the 1959 Pervincian General Election the newly created Pervincian Army deployed in force to Sacenbridge, overseeing the removal of all Supero Omnian forces and the disarmament of all militias. They then proceeded to move into North Sacenbridge where they dismantled the Commune and fully reincorporated it.

Diplomacy and negotiation had managed to effectively bring most of the rest of the nation together prior to the 1959 election, and the show of force presented during the deconstruction of the North Sacenbridge Commune meant that the Pervincian Army deployment into West Tantum was met with no resistance. The populations of the regions that had still resisted called for another election, resulting in the 1960 Pervincian General Election.

Instability

The leadup to the 1960 election was filled with political violence as militant groups remaining from the Independence War aligned themselves with the newly emerging political parties and entered into street fighting with each other.

Civil War

The Pervincian Civil War was a conflict fought because of the death of King Karvel Valgarðsson at the hands of a socialist assassin. The conflict resulted in the establishment of the 2nd Pervincian Republic.

Pervincia is a member of the Telrovan Assembly, Telrovan Union and Nordesian Council. It maintains friendly relations with almost every country on Telrova and sustains a large number of foreign embassies within it's capital and many of it's own abroad.

Energy

Pervincia is one of few countries on Telrova which has an entirely renewable electricity grid. The primary sources of electricity are geothermal and hydropower, with notable contributions by wind and tidal power as well. Pervincia produces a huge amount of electricity per capita and this has encouraged large companies worldwide to build servers in Pervincia to take advantage of cheap electricity prices.

Most remaining CO2 emissions come from transportation and fishing vessels. In 2021 the government passed a declaration intending to become carbon negative by 2050.

Culture

Pervincians place great importance on self sufficiency and independence.

Pervincians are known for their strong sense of community and lack of social isolation: A 2024 survey found that 98% believe they know someone they could rely on in a time of need, higher than in any other industrialized country. Similarly, only 6% reported "rarely" or "never" socializing with others. This high level of social cohesion is attributed to a long history of harsh survival in an isolated environment, which reinforced the importance of unity and cooperation.

Pervincia is very liberal on LGBTQ issues and legalized same sex partnerships quite early in it's modern history.

Equality between sexes is very high.

Media

Pervincia is often used as a shooting location in movies due to it's dramatic landscape.

Radio is broadcasted throughout the island, with both private and public stations and a variety of topics available.

Press freedom in Pervincia is extremally high. The protection of journalists and whistleblowers is considered a fundamental part of the culture and the government has some of the strongest laws to this effect on Telrova.

A huge majority of Pervincians have access to the internet.
