The Coalition for Democratic Action (Etrurian: Coalizione per l'azione Democratica) is an electoral alliance in Marirana between the Anti-Revolutionary Party (PAR), Democratic Alternative (AD), Forza Marirana and the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP).
The CAD was founded in 1980 as a multi-party umbrella group opposed to the then ruling military dictatorship. Consisting of the PAR, AD, Federation of the Democratic and Socialist Left (FSDS) and Mariranan Workers' Socialist Party (PSLM) the CAD contested in the 1980 election which they later called fraudulent after the military backed candidate won. In 1988 following the collapse of the dictatorship the CAD agreed to campaign as a common front against the military, nominating in the 1988 election Stefano Uccello as their candidate. Uccello won in an overwhelming landslide, getting 82.6% of the vote to the military backed candidate's 17.4%.
Uccello reformed the constitution leading to the creation of a House of Senators and a semi-presidential government. The FSDS and PSLM left the CAD at this point to form the Democratic Left Alliance (albeit the right-wing of the FSDS and PSLM remained in the coalition as the Socialist Party; PS) resulting in the alliance to adopt a more centrist profile, moving to the right. The CAD's candidates Oliviero Michelozzi (son of former president Antonio Michelozzi and Giordano Falcomatà both won the 1993 and 1998 elections respectively whilst the CAD maintained a majority in the legislature.
In the 2003 election the CAD candidate Alessandra Michelozzi lost to right-wing candidate Alfonso Hatoyama. However after 2003 the CAD formed a grand coalition with Hatoyama's Convergence for Freedom and in 2006 impeached Hatoyama on corruption grounds, forming a minority government. In 2006 CAD member parties voted to impeach Hatoyama with CAD member Roberto Vernizzi becoming president. Following a corruption scandal in early 2007 PS left the CAD. The CAD's candidate Giuseppe Rognoni lost the 2008 election to Dario Lorenzin's Alliance for the Centre. However in 2010 the AC collapsed when the right-wing faction of the Socialist Party broke off to form the PSP, with the PSP and Forza Marirana leaving the AC and joining CAD. This gave CAD a majority in the legislature resulting in the coalition to force president Lorenzin into cohabitation.
In the 2013 presidential election the CAD candidate, Giorgio Macciocchi, won with the CAD retaining its parliamentary majority. In 2017 22 Councillors and 5 Senators split from the CAD to form the Union of Centrists and Democrats, resulting in the CAD to lose its majority in the House of Councillors.
During the 2018 presidential election the CAD's candidate Rosa Michelozzi came third, marking it the first time since 1936 that a member of the Anti-Revolutionary party did not advance to the second round of an election. The CAD in the 2018 legislative election saw a devastating defeat losing the majority of their seats and coming third to Avanti Marirana! and Popular Force 2018.
