On August 30th, 2021, an earthquake measuring 8.2 originating 121.3 km (75.3 mi) west of Zouterhem created a tsunami which measured 37.2 m (122 ft) in Sarrapaluk, a town 110.8 km (68.8 mi) south of Zouterhem. At 2:32 PM local time, an alert was issued ordering those that live within a 18.1 km (11.2 mi) radius of the Galton Sea to evacuate inland. 6 hours after the alert was issued, the tsunami struck Zouterhem, although most people within the specified radius of the Galton Sea were already evacuated.

Motorways

Numerous motorways have been built in Zouterhem in the 1960-1990's, with the city today having high coverage, though despite this, travel times within Zouterhem are relatively high, with traffic also being an issue. These issues however can be attributed to car accidents, construction and, in some areas, undermaintained infrastructure.

Public transportation

Being served by government-owned ZouterhemStadslink, Zouterhem has what is considered to be one of the most extensive public transportation networks in Nortua, with the city having 12 metro lines (with 2 more under construction) covering a total of 93.4 kilometers (58 miles).
