The Pelita ministry was formed when Kekelina Pelita was formally requested to form a government in 28 October 2024 shortly after her election as the leader of the Progressive Workers' Party due to the sudden death of the previous prime minister, Peter Jasubulu. It succeeded the previous Jasubulu ministry and it is a continuation of the previous coalition government formed by two parties, the centre-left Progressive Workers' Party and the centrist and liberal Initiative.
Shortly after her appointment, she began negotiations with Initiative leader Dian Rovanio to determine the composition of the cabinet. She announced her cabinet on 1 November 2024, largely maintaining appointments of her predecessor.
