XXX, also somewhat archaically known as Veierodism, is a polylatrist, dualist and panentheist religion originating with the New Spirit Movement in Eskavia during he early 19th century. The religion has been called highly syncretic by academics, with its theology drawing from Gregorianism, local indigenous beliefs, Northern mysticism, Hylo-Elian religious practices and various other New World religious groups. Adherents of this faith are called XXXers.
The religion was first founded by lay-philosopher and charismatic religious leader Pål Veierod who claimed to have received a series of revelations in the form of dreams and visions from God, which he chronicled in the Rites and Testaments, one of their seven canonical holy books. XXXers believe in an existence of a "Great Spirit" (XXX: dunno) from which all life and being emanates from, and hold that the material world is inherently sinful, created by a malevolent entity known as Dunno, representing the one of farthest planes of existence from the Great Spirit and closer to Oblivion. XXXers hold that upon death the soul undergoes multiple rounds of reincarnation until it eventually either achieves unity with the great spiritual (dunno, lit. "congruency") or degenerate into nothingness in accordance their their Soul-Debt. XXX maintain an established divine hierarchy of TBA (dunno) composed of individuals who have successfully transcended into higher planes of reality, and have historically linked these dunno to the various deities found in other religions.

XXX was historically heavily persecuted due to its radical departure from Gregorian doctrine, support for polygamy, and pluralistic inclusion of non-Calesian beliefs into its theology, resulting in a serious a state crackdowns during the 1840s and '50s. This culminated in the Great Journey where XXXers migrated away from Eskavian administrative centres and towards the Elian interior, settling along the X Rift Valley and establishing various internationally unrecognised states which came to be known as the X Republics. The XXXer's migrations were often accompanied by conflicts against both indigenous groups settled along the region as well as the Lavish-speaking postcolonial states who were largely unable to assert their claims over the region. The 18XX Great Rift War saw XXXer communities successful starve off Eskavian encroachment, earning their international recognition.
XXX is generally separated into broadly 4 branches or "Congregations" which differ on doctrine and religious rights.[...]
