The Galactic Union, also known simply as The Union, is a democratic federal union spread across light-years of space in the Talin Galaxy. Old Union is the term affixed to the pre-modern Union that existed until 800 AHT.

The Old Union was founded in approximately 9,800 BHT. The Galactic Senate governed the Union under the Galactic Constitution, and comprised thousands of senators representing the Union's member worlds. The Premier was the title of the head of the Union, elected from ranks of the Senate to lead the government on Aciorus.

The Galactic Union and it star systems shared sovereignty, and spanned a multiplicity of worlds from the -- to the --, uniting a variety of sentient species, human and alien alike, under one banner. As its power grew, the Union fought many wars against various opponents such as the --, --, --, and --.
