The Hugotic War (Mtl: ఉకొ హుబి, Uko Hubi) is an ongoing conflict between the Mutul and the Noble Republic of Orun Redisus that began in December 2024 when the Mutul invaded its eastern neighbor in a campaign now known as Operation Covenant. The stated goal of the war is the dethroning of Indore II Ivorea and his replacement by his brother Hugo Ivorea. The war come after decades of tensions within Orun Redisus over the status of Orun, economic and ecological policies, the resurgence of anti-Latin sentiments within Orun.
Preludes
Orun Redisus Royal Elections
In 2018 was held the sixth Assembly of the Four Dawns in 2018 during which the Five House of Orun elected Indore Ivorea over his eldest brother, Hugo Ivorea. Proposing younger candidates is a common policy of the Five Houses, as it allow them to potentially hold the throne for longer and, if the elected monarch is a minor, for the House's Patriarch or Matriarch to serve as Regent.
Knowing that his cousin and Matriarch Grand Duke Ixdira Ivorea would not endorse Hugo's bid for the throne due to his age, the Prince made an appeal to popular will by making public his plan for Orun Redisus. He notably promised to go back on environmental policies and reduce the size of protected areas to allow for the development of agriculture and an industrial base as well as facilitate access of many isolated settlements to other parts of the country and improve access to government institutions and programs, especially healthcare and higher education. Many demands that had been made by Oran movements throughout the existence of the country. Hugo had planned for the public pressure and the fear of outcry and backlash in the case of his loss would force the Houses to elect him over his younger brother, but his bid failed, Ixdira and the other Heads confronting Hugo over what they perceived as his reckless and short-sighted behavior, having now raised political awareness among the general population. From there on out, Prince Hugo became a persona-non-grata at Court, rejected by the other nobles for his Populism and Demagoguery.
August 26 2024 Coup
On the 26th of August 2024, Prince Hugo attempted a coup against his brother. The coup itself was led by Lieutenant Alarc Melendos whose 12th Cavalry Platoon spearheaded the infiltration of the Royal Palace. The infiltration's failure led to Hugo's escape from the country. He found refuge in the Mutul where he was granted Immunity by the Divine Lord, sparkling a diplomatic crisis with Orun Redisus which had issued a warrant for his arrest and demanded his extradition. The Divine Throne meanwhile denied the existence of the coup and denounced it as a False flag operation deviced by Ixdira Ivorea to get rid of her main political opponent.
Blue Palace Hostage Crisis
On the 12th of December 2024, a group of armed men was able to infiltrate the Blue Palace Hostel, a luxury hotel in the city center of K'alak Muul. A firefight then broke out between the assaillants and the security personel within the hotel which led to police intervention and the entrenchment of the assaillants within the builidng, along a number of hostages. After four hours of investigation and negotiations, the order was given to the K'aMu City Guard to storm the hotel. Other operations took place throughout the city to seek potential collaborators of the assaillants.
The day after, it was revealed by the K'alak Muul City Guard that the assaillants targets had been Hugo of Ivorea who was lodged in the hotel by the Divine Throne. The ambassador of Orun Redisus was then summoned by the Divine Lord, sign of diplomatic displeasure. The Divine Throne then made a public communique that they considered all evidences pointed toward Orun Redisus being behind the attack, which the Noble Republic categorically denied.
