Operation Tundra Shield was a joint operation between the Blackhelm Confederate Army and air force and the Calednian military to protect the Caledonian border and later to expel Belkan forces from Plätteisen Adler.
Caledonian Air Lift
Following the formation of the North Lorecian Coalition, forces from all participating members began flowing into Caledonia. Tens of thousands of troops from across Astyria, as well as enormous amounts of equipment and supplies began flowing into the country, creating what would become known as the Caledonian Air Lift.
Belkan Raid at Matvayez
As Coalition manpower began to grow in Caledonia, the Belkan military launched a major raid against the primary Coalition command center, located at Matvayez Air Base in Caledonia. After a sustained air and artillery barrage on the site, Belkan special forces units arrived via helicopter and began destroying building and engaging in firefights throughout the base. After over an hour of fighting, Coalition troops were able to regain control of the air base.

Operation Accendo
During the broader efforts of Operation Tundra Shield, the Confederate Airborne Guards’ 1st Battalion, 52nd Parachute Infantry Regiment initiated Operation Accendo, a nighttime airborne assault designed to capture the city of Jaeger Bereich. The operation sought to bypass Belkan defensive lines along the Ferdinand Rhein and strike directly at a key urban stronghold. Confederate High Command assessed that the city was primarily defended by substandard Adlerite People's Liberation Army (APLA) units, making it a viable target for a rapid assault.
Objectives and Planning
The primary objectives of Operation Accendo included severing lines of communication, isolating Jaeger Bereich from potential reinforcements, and neutralizing key Belkan and APLA leadership within the city. In preparation, Confederate aircraft conducted extensive bombing campaigns over several days, targeting radar systems and anti-aircraft installations in the region. This effort aimed to render Jaeger Bereich’s air defenses largely ineffective.
The plan relied on the element of surprise, with paratroopers launching their attack under the cover of darkness. I Company was tasked with securing the city’s perimeter, cutting off major roads and access points to prevent reinforcements from reaching the area. II and III Companies were assigned to move into the city itself, focusing on capturing critical infrastructure and eliminating leadership targets.
Execution
In the hours before the assault, Confederate Air Force bombers provided heavy support to ensure the paratroopers faced minimal resistance upon arrival. Soldiers boarded the same transport aircraft that had carried them into Nouvel Ecosse weeks earlier, embarking on what would become one of the most daring operations of the campaign.
Landing undetected under the cover of night, I Company quickly began establishing control over major roadways and communication lines surrounding Jaeger Bereich. Simultaneously, II and III Companies pressed into the city, using intelligence gathered from reconnaissance to prioritize high-value objectives. Despite the relatively small size of the force, their rapid progress leveraged the confusion created by the surprise attack.
I Company's landing was met with some resistance from small groups of APLA fighters equipped with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. A short but intense skirmish erupted near a key intersection on the M8 highway south of the city, as Confederate paratroopers faced an entrenched APLA unit. After a brief firefight, I Company overwhelmed the defenders, effectively cutting off reinforcements from the surrounding countryside.
Inside the city, II and III Companies encountered heavier resistance than expected. The APLA defenders, bolstered by a contingent of Belkan regulars, established defensive positions in government buildings, industrial facilities, and civilian areas. Fighting was particularly fierce in the northern district, where Confederate forces faced a well-coordinated ambush as they advanced along a narrow street. Using improvised barricades and sniper fire, the defenders inflicted several casualties before Confederate troops deployed explosives to breach their positions and force a retreat.
Despite the urban environment complicating their advance, Confederate troops maintained momentum by utilizing reconnaissance reports and exploiting weaknesses in the defenders' lines. A coordinated push through the southern districts encountered sporadic resistance, with APLA fighters attempting to delay the advance through hit-and-run tactics. However, the lack of centralized command and the shock of the airborne assault left the defenders disorganized.
By dawn, the paratroopers had established control over most of Jaeger Bereich. Remaining pockets of resistance were either captured or forced to withdraw to the countryside. Confederate casualties were moderate, but the operation succeeded in its primary objectives of capturing the city and disrupting Belkan and APLA operations in the region.
