Plätteisen Adler is a country in western Astyria. It borders Caledonia to the north, Arstotska to the south and Belka to the east. With a land area of 57,200 square kilometres (22,100 sq mi), it is the second smallest country in Lorecia, occupying a narrow strip of land about 564 kilometres (350 mi) long from east to west and no broader than 150 kilometres (93 mi) north to south.

Plätteisen Adler's location at the interface between multiple cultures has historically made it a contested region, and it spent much of its history as a territory of one or other of its neighbours. It was a core territory of the Caledonian Empire from its conquest c. 130 BC until the empire's collapse in 573 AD. At some point it was annexed again by Caledonia. It gained independence from Caledonia at the conclusion of the Great Astyrian War. Plätteisen Adler, as well as Arstotska, was invaded and occupied by Belka in 2007, leading to unprecedent economic difficulties and widespread atrocities. Belkan forces were expelled the following year by a combined intervention by Caledonia, Romberg, Berique and the Blackhelm Confederacy.

Etymology

History

Prehistory

It is thought that Plätteisen Adler was populated by around 60000 BC, by migrating settlers from the North. Nouvel Ecosse was first populated by around 70000 BC, and historians believe that as the settlers began to migrate Southwards towards the warmer weather they adapted to their new environments. Given the pine woodlands of Plätteisen Adler, and the population of game in the surrounding woodlands, as well as their close links to the Yellosian people, the Adlerites adapted to be big and hulking, thriving on the local meat and fish. These people were nomadic in nature, yet didn't tend to stray far from the Wikinger Meeresarm and the Caledonian Sea, likely to be because of the fresh fish present.

Geography

Plätteisen Adler is in northeastern Lorecia, lying roughly between the 51st parallel and 53rd parallel north of the equator, experiencing subarctic and humid continental climates. The climate is moderated by the two major bodies of water flanking the country, the Caledonian Sea and Lake Wet. Summers are warm but not hot, with maximum August temperatures not exceeding 31 °C (88 °F). Winters are mild relative to the continental interior. Temperatures rarely drop below −10 °C (14 °F) except in the extreme southwest.

Hill

The country's geography is divided into two main regions: the Flatiron Plain, which occupies about 70% of the country, and the Border Fells, a region of barren upland and extensively pine-forested valleys in the southwest along the Arstotskan frontier. Although several taller Arstotskan and Caledonian mountains extend into Plätteisen Adler, the actual highest point in the country is Hill, at 616 metres (2,021 ft) in elevation.

This is what they get up to by Lake

Away from the northwest and southern borders, the country is generally flat, particularly on the northern shore of Lake, which was historically an extensive region of pine and swamp, with many islands. Much of this swampland has been reclaimed for agriculture since the middle ages, and an ongoing post-glacial rebound means that in some places the elevation above sea level is rising by as much as 1 centimetre (0.39 in) per year.

Plätteisen Adler has 447 islands. Most are relatively minor and the vast majority are uninhabited, but the two islands of A and B are respectively 217 square kilometres (84 sq mi) and 652 square kilometres (252 sq mi) in area and are among the largest islands in the Caledonian Sea.
