The Aquitaynian General Election of 2014 was held on the 8th of December, 2014. All 786 seats in the House of Commons using thetwo-round system.

The election was held 3 years after the previous election in 2010. Prime Minister James Zaeir, head of the Royalist Party, succeeded former PM Nathan Wilde of the People's Party, and began office on the 5th of January the following year. The election was an unusual landslide for the Royalist Party, after a strong coalition lead by Mr.Zaeir and the now-weakened Republicans worked together to secure stronger national defense budgets and pushed the 2013 Invasion of Pangus through the legislative body in 2013.

The intervention was largely seen as a great moment for the nation, and the Royalist Party used it to secure their overwhelming majority in the Commons. In the Lords, however, the Royalists did not obtain an absolute majority, but after talks with the head of Environmentalist MP, Amy Haroldsson, a coalition majority was secured in the House of Lords on the terms that larger environmental incentives and initiatives be brought before the House of Commons.

The Royalist Coalition would hold until the next election cycle in 2017.

Campaign

Major Issues

The major issues concerning the 2014 election were, mainly, the recent intervention in Insula Fera, and a proposed 15% increase to the National Healthcare System. The Royalist Party fought on multiple fronts over the course of the election to provide what they called the "moral policy", which was defined by a continuing and expanding humanitarian mission in Insula Fera, and the expansion of the NHS at home. Critics of these policies cited the expected explosion of the deficit if they were brought to fruition, with the Ministry of Government Accountability creating a study in which they found the national deficit would rise by 22% over five years under the proposed policies.

The People's Party argued for a less extensive nation-building campaign in Insula Fera and argued to turn the entire operation over to the Symphonians or the EATA. It was widely believed within the party and their supporters that Aquitayne had thrust itself into a region it had no business being in and wasn't obligated to go there. Additionally, the breakdown of relations between the United Kingdom and the EATA over the intervention fueled an anti-interventionist agenda. The People's Party also fought to subdue the proposed NHS expansion, stating that expanding the current system would cripple the nation, and that the NHS had to be defunded and private insurers given the opportunity to bring costs down across the healthcare market.
