Humans have inhabited the Yulija Valley since approximately 4,600 BCE with the arrival of a group of hunter-gatherer tribes known as the Kay'ii. The Kay'ii settled in the valley and became an agricultural civilization, splitting off into various disunited tribes across the region. The Kay'ii were overtaken by the arrival of the Ylkentic peoples around 2,700 BCE who came with bronze age technology. The Kay'ii were enslaved and slowly killed off over the succeeding centuries. Around 900 BCE, the first Szlavic peoples arrived in what is now Kalinia on Arcanstotska's Phoenix Sea coastline. With them came the iron age and the Ylkentics were conquered and enslaved. The Szlavs themselves broke off into many different kingdoms and fiefdoms spread across the Yulia Valley between the Tykaya mountains in the west and the Hyral mountains in the east.

By 613 the Yulija valley had been unified under the Arcanstotskan Empire, proclaimed by Fyodor I of Siloyev who took upon himself the title of ''Tsar'', or conqueror. In 966 Arcanstotska was inherited by the Norsian House of Saitta, forming the Norsian-Arcanstotskan Commonwealth. 1146 saw the end of the Commonwealth and the reestablishment of an independent Arcanstotska, beginning the second imperial age.

Arcanstotska's military, the Arcanstotskan Armed Forces, is comprised of three primary branches; the Army (with special forces OZG), the Navy, and the Air Force. The total number of service members across the Armed Forces in 2019 totaled 1.08 million across all service branches (??? active duty, ??? in reserve). In absolute terms, Arcanstotska's military expenditure is equal to WIP billion IBU, roughly WIP% of the nation's GDP and WIP in the world. In times of peace, the Armed Forces fall under the authority of the Minister of Defense, however, in times of war, the Armed Forces instead fall under the command of the President.

The Arcanstotskan Armed Forces is a completely voluntary force in peacetime, though conscription may occur in times of war.
