In the 1970s the VCRP lost a lot of voters to christian-pacifist Caucus'70. In the 1981 election the party lost all their seats a had no parliamentary representation in the State Assembly. For twelve years the VCRP remained as a extra-parliamentary political party. After the fall of the Berlin Wall the VCRP saw a increase in popularity, in the 1993 election the VCRP won 15 seats and entered the State Assembly after twelve years of no representation at national level.
