Mairs went to University in Port Manatoulin at Victoria University, where he received a degree in Business. During his degree, Mairs became politically active, campaigning for multiple causes including Manatoulin re-integration with the rest of the former colony of Angrosia, which at the time, was in the process of reforming and re-uniting as Timiskrane. Mairs subsequently became an early member of the newly formed progress party and was nominated to run representing his home district in the 2021 election.
