The Kouralian Royal Navy is the Wet-Warfare Branch of the Kouralian Military and is a fully fledged Blue-Water Navy which operates throughout Mystria and beyond. While it is not the 'favoured child' of the three service branches, the Navy still operates a modern, disciplined, and well-equipped force.

It is responsible for crewing all ships, landing craft and patrol boats in the military - though there are some smallcraft operated by the Corps of Engineers of the Royal Army, or by the Air Force's Coastal Warfare Command. The Navy also has responsibility for all aircraft embarked on Naval ships and for the Fleet Fusilier Guard - a force of infantrymen who secure naval vessels and facilities, along with assisting army expeditionary troops in landings.

Organisation

High Command

The Admiralty Board is the administrative high command of the Navy. It is made up of the senior-most staff officers, and is regularly joined by senior elected and appointed civilians such as the Justiciar of State for War, or senior civil servants. The Chair of the Admiralty is assisted by the Principal Master-Warrant Officer of the Navy, who is the service's senior enlisted advisor. It is their responsibility to keep a link open between the high command and enlisted 'practitioners.'

• Undermaster of the Admiralty, and Master of the Shore - Deputy to the Chair, and responsible for Fleet Reserves and Shore Establishments.
• Master of the Fleet - responsible for all operational management of vessels.
• Controller of the Fleet - responsible for technical support, outfitting, and procuring of vessels.
• Master of Fleet Supplies - responsible for supplying the navy, and his responsibilities included transport, victualling (supplying food), and medical services.
• Admiral-Adjutant - responsible for personnel development and support, and training.

The Admiralty Board does not exercise operational command of naval forces, as this is passed down via the Joint Service Commands. However, it is responsible for ensuring that sufficient vessels are allocated to each Joint Naval Command to meet its purpose, as well as ensuring they are sufficiently staffed and equipped.

Operational Command

As detailed above, operational command at a strategic level is via the Joint Service Commands, and bypasses the Admiralty Board entirely. However, at an Operational and Tactical level, command is usually vested solely with Naval commanders.

Administrative Branches

Surface Fleet

FRNS Invincible and RKNV Queen Alyx En Fidelis

The Surface Fleet is responsible for managing all the surface ships in the Navy, though not actually for commanding them. This includes aircraft carriers, though their aircrew are Skyfleet Personnel, and Amphibious Warfare ships though their embarked troops are Fleet Fusiliers.

Submarine Fleet

The Submarine Fleet is the section of the Kouralian Fleet responsible for coordinating submarines. Due to the nature of submarine warfare, it is considerably more clandestine than the Surface Fleet. Most senior staff officers within the Submarine Fleet will have had command appointments within it too, so that they understand the unique concerns that come with operating those vessels.

To become a commander or executive officer within the Submarine Fleet, one must complete the Commanding Officer's Qualifying Course. This is a 24 week high intensity, high-attrition training programme to assess suitability to command a submarine at war, and roughly 25% of candidates wash out as a minimum per intake.

Skyfleet

The Skyfleet is responsible for maintaining and operating fixed and rotary-wing aircraft from naval vessels. They are also responsible for maritime patrol aircraft, and operate a number of land-based Naval Air Stations for this purpose.

Fleet Fusilier Guard

The Fleet Fusilier Guard is the Navy's contribution to the expeditionary forces of Kouralia. Unlike the Silverfin Guard Commandos they are not commando-trained personnel, and unlike Expeditionary-Warfare Infantry Cohorts they are not fully trained infantrymen. A company of them is embarked within each Expeditionary Legion, and their main roles are securing landing zones and dockyard infrastructure, directing naval gunfire, and force protection. Most Kouralian naval vessels will have a number of them embarked to fulfil that latter purpose.

Operational Organisation

The Naval Forces assigned to each Joint Service Command are usually made up of permanent formations into and out of which ships are assigned depending on personnel, maintenance, and supplying needs. These formations can be brought into and out of the responsibility of Joint Service Commands by the Admiralty Board, however the Admiralty Board is tasked with ensuring that all JSC Naval Headquarters are adequately staffed to accomplish any strategic aims they are assigned. For the Admiralty Board to remove forces from a JSC without consulting its commander would be an extreme act.

Personnel

Rank Structure

The Officers of the Kouralian Navy hold leadership and management roles, though are rarely trained with in-depth technical knowledge about the systems they are responsible for. They usually do not directly operate warfare, engineering, communication, or other technical equipment. Principal exceptions to this are Hydrographical and Meteorological Officers whose expertise and education is traditionally commensurate with the authority and remuneration that a commission entails, Pilots, and Nuclear Reactor Supervision Officers.

10	Lord High Admiral	Is the rank held by the Lord and Master of the Admiralty, and if the Lord and Master of the Forces is a Naval Officer, by them as well. Reaching this rank bestows a Life-Lordship on the holder, though they not sit in the Crown Assembly unless they are incumbent in one of those two positions. The holder of this rank is entitled to a flag of office. Currently only the Chair of the Navy holds this rank.
9	Fleet Admiral	Is an exceptionally senior executive rank, held by the remaining members of the Admiralty Board as well as the commander of a Joint Service Command or Deployed Forces Command should they be a Naval Officer. The holder of this rank is entitled to a flag of office. Currently eight people hold this rank.
8	Admiral	Is a senior executive rank, held within the Naval Staff by those who do not quite sit on the Admiralty Board, such as Flag Officer Sea Training who answers to the Admiral-Adjutant, or Flag Officer Fusiliers who answers to the Vys-Chair of the Admiralty. Within the Joint Service Commands, the deputy of each JSC and the commander of the naval contingent within each JSC is a 'Full' Admiral. The holder of this rank is entitled to a flag of office.
7	Vice-Admiral	Is an executive-level rank held by senior naval staff members. This rank is held by the operational commander of a 'Numbered' Fleet, along with senior staff officers.
6	Legate-At-Sea	Is the juniormost executive-level rank and is held by those who are responsible for the command of Battlesquadrons, Fusilier Legions large commands of fleet aviation forces, and staff officers in larger commands. Attaining this rank entitles one to use the term of address Legate even once retired, and it is the first rank at which one is entitled to the use of a flag.
5	Post-Captain	Is the seniormost of the Posted-Command ranks, and is held by those who command the largest of ships, such as Aircraft Carriers or Guided Missile Cruisers. The largest of Squadrons or Divisions within Battlesquadrons can be lead by Post-Captains too. The Chief of Staff for a Numbered Fleet is a 'Post-Captain' referred to as the Captain of the Fleet. The commander of any Kouralian naval vessel is referred to as the Captain, however this does not mean they necessarily hold the rank of Captain.
4	Commander	Is a senior Posted-Command rank, held by those who command smaller ships such as Frigate or Destroyer-sized escorts. They can also be responsible for junior staff roles or Department Head roles on larger ships.
3	Vys-Commander	A Vys-Commander is a Posted-Command rank held by those who command small vessels such as Minelayers and patrol boats. Otherwise it is a common rank for Executive Officers and department Heads on Escort vessels.
2	Centenær	Is generally the juniormost Posted-Command rank, held by those who lead the smallest of patrol boats. Otherwise it is held by officers within a ship's departments.
1	Vyntenær Ensign	Is held by junior officers recently out of the Naval College who occupy roles within one of a Ship's Departments.

They are significantly smaller and older than the Hero-Class - carrying only 21 Airframes, but can still undertake fully independent defensive and offensive ASaC, ASW and ASuW aviation operations. These Ships are commanded by Captains.

These ships are commanded by Captains. A number of these ships operate independently as the lead ships of the Kouralian Navy's Coastal Command's Extended-Range Interdiction Areas.

The vessel features no CIWS, though the 76mm guns can fulfil that role. The high concentration of armaments on a small hull necessitates the high crew count compared to other ships. The vessels are smaller and less capable than designated AA and ASW escorts, however the modernisation helps them bridge the gap and provide economical general purpose support to the fleet. Each vessel has a 155mm gun in the bow for shore gunnery, and two quad launchers for the standard anti-surface missile. A 16-cell OceanCeptor VLS is installed behind the gun, as is a Rolling AIrframe Missile CIWS above the hangar. Also installed are torpedo catapults and manual guns for countering smallcraft and port-defence.

They can also carry Frogman-delivery facilities.

It can operate in as little as 17m of water, and can remain submerged for as long as 18 days. The Submarine has 6 torpedo tubes, and can carry 13 torpedoes or 4-pack AA missiles capable of being launched while submerged. It can also carry up to 24 sea-mines externally. The mast contains a single recoil-less 25mm cannon which can be deployed while the vessel is submerged, and up to three short-range UAVs.
