The military societies of The Meoquanee are the de-facto military branch of the nation as the Meoquanee tribes hold no standing military or national military arm. The societies are broken up among the tribes are are neither subordinate or superior to each other and each usually specialize in a different aspect of the "warrior code" held by the Mequanee. The council chiefs are responsible for overall governance of individual bands and the confederacy as a whole, however the headmen of military societies are in charge of maintaining discipline within the tribe, overseeing tribal hunts and ceremonies, and providing military leadership. In times of war the societies are called upon together and establish a centralized leadership known as the War Chief. Traditionally the War Chief is the High Chieftain of the Meoquanee, however it can be anyone from among tribal leadership should the High Chieftain want someone else appointed in his stead.
