The Social Democratic Party of Tarper, abbreviated as SDPT and also commonly referred to as the SocDems, is a social democratic political organization in Tarper. The original party was founded in 2003 as a continuation of the Tarperti Party of Socialism and Democracy, a social democratic party in the former Republic of Tarper.

Since 2016 it has been an internal faction of the Socialist Party of Tarper, the SDPT's former organizations have either been merged into the organization of the Labour Party and Socialist Unity Party or have remained as sub-organizations within the SDPT.

History

In 1992, a year after the establishment of the Republic of Tarper, all opposition parties were outlawed from the Republic. The Communist Party refused to dissolve itself and self-exiled in Plamyadia. This exile of the CPT caused various factions to emerge from the old party and seek official recognition from the Republican government.

In 1996 after years of petitioning, the government allowed free elections. Several factions of the CPT brokeout and created parties. Out of the CPt came the Republican Union of Anti-Capitalists (Tarper) and the Tarperti Party of Socialism and Democracy.

The SD became the third largest party in the Republic after the DPR, which was second, and the National Party, which was first. In 1998 the Republic once again outlawed all opposition parties, the SD was forced to disband and members were incarcerated.

After the Second Civil War, all political prisoners were released. In 2003 the former members reconvened and created the SDPT. In the 2005 Federal Election, the party sent its first members to the Federal Assembly.

After the 2013 Federal Election, the Social Democratic Party became part of the Socialist Front, a united Socialist coalition. As part of Chancellor Herzog's "One Big Party" plan, the SDPT's organizations were consolidated into singular entities and in 2016 the party relinquished its independence towards the new Socialist Party of Tarper. The SDPT is now a political organization within the SP and runs its members with dual membership with the the SP.

Former special organizations

The SDPT currently hosts only one pressure group

  • New Age Foundation: the think tank of the party

The organization was host to several pressure groups, though several of the groups are usually sedentary and go along with the organization's leadership, but the Left Faction was the only one to fulfill its mission.

  • Social Democratic Youth Organizations (SDYO): oversaw the student and youth organizations
    • Social Democratic Student Union
    • Youths in Social Democracy
  • Fesodem (Female Social Democrats): Women's wing of the party, was interested in pushing pro-feminist policy
  • Left Faction: created party policy that favored merging with the members of the Socialist Front and create a "Socialist Party of Tarper"
  • The Modern Socialist: former newspaper of the SDPT and NeoComms before it, merged with The Tarperti Journal against the wishes of the organization which was against the socialist merger
