The Armed Forces of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Вооружённые Силы Союза Советских Социалистических Республик, tr. Voorujhyonnyiye Silyi Soyuza Sovyetskih Sotsialistichyeskih Ryespublik), commonly known as the Soviet Armed Forces, are the combined military forces of the Soviet Union. Combined, they comprise the world's largest military in terms of active-duty personnel, with 5.5 million personnel in total. The Soviet Armed Forces consists of the Army, Strategic Rocket Forces, Air Forces, Air Defence Forces, Navy, and the Space Forces.
