This template may be used to create the column headings for some aviation-related lists defined at WP:AVLIST. It populates the heading row according to the selected list topic.

It also adds the article to the associated maintenance category.

Usage

Add it using

{{avilisthead|[value]}}

The topic values provided are:

  • [no value]
  • general
  • military
  • mil-current
  • mil-historical
  • role
  • nonstandard

This will provide the appropriate table opening code and column headings. The column headings that these values create are shown below with some example entries. Any other value will default to the no value format.

You will need to add the individual entries using Wikitext table markup in the usual way.

Don't forget to close the table at the end of the list with one of:

  • |}
  • {{end table}}

[no value]

If no format option is set or if the option value is not recognised, a default table heading is displayed. This option should be maintained to mirror the general format, which has eight columns.

Type Country Class Role Date Status No. Notes
Mil Mi-6 USSR Rotorcraft Transport 1965 Production 456 Helicopter.
Supermarine Spitfire UK Propeller Fighter 1936 Production 12,345 Derived types:Seafire, Spiteful, Seafang.

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in default format.

general

This list format is for general lists of types sharing some common feature. It has eight columns.

Type Country Class Role Date Status No. Notes
Mil Mi-6 USSR Rotorcraft Transport 1965 Production 456 Helicopter.
Supermarine Spitfire UK Propeller Fighter 1936 Production 12,345 Derived types:Seafire, Spiteful, Seafang.

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in general format.

military

This list format is for both current and historical types used by a military organisation. It has eight columns. Using the Status column entry format described at WP:AVLIST, the list can be sorted on "In service" vs. "Retired" status.

Where a list contains only current or historical types, one of the formats following this one may be used instead.

Type Origin Class Role Introduced Status Total Notes
Sukhoi Su-27 Russia Jet Fighter 1997 14 in service 15 Su-27SK and Su-27UBK
Supermarine Spitfire UK Propeller Fighter 1948 Retired 1977 25 Mks. XIV and PR 19.
Mil Mi-6 USSR Helicopter Transport 1965 Retired 1984 6
Mil Mi-8 USSR Helicopter Transport 1972 3 in service 8

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in military format.

mil-current

This list format is for the current types used by a military operator. It has eight columns.

Type Origin Class Role Introduced In service Total Notes
Sukhoi Su-27 Russia Jet Fighter 1997 14 15 Su-27SK and Su-27UBK
Mil Mi-8 USSR Helicopter Transport 1972 3 8

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in military current format.

mil-historical

This list format is for the historical types previously owned by a military operator. It has eight columns.

Type Origin Class Role Introduced Retired Total Notes
Supermarine Spitfire UK Propeller Fighter 1948 1977 25 Mks. XIV and PR 19.
Mil Mi-6 USSR Helicopter Transport 1965 1984 6

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in military historical format.

role

This list format is for lists of types designed for a common role. It has seven columns.

Type Country Class Date Status No. Notes
Messerschmitt Bf 109 Germany Propeller 1935 Production 12,345
Supermarine Spitfire UK Propeller 1936 Production 23,456 Derived types:Seafire, Spiteful, Seafang.

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in role format.

nonstandard

This option does not add a header row but instead adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in non-standard formats. You will need to add your own header row.

Use it only after consensus has been reached on the article talk page that none of the standard formats defined here is suitable.

Example non-standard code, to include a column for NATO codenames:

{{avilisthead|nonstandard}}
! Type !! NATO codename !! Class !! Role !! Date !! Total !! Notes
|-
| [[Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21]] || Fishbed || Jet || Fighter || 1959 || 11,496 || Also produced in India and Czechoslovakia.
| [[Mil Mi-6]] || Hook || Helicopter || Transport || 1957 || 925 ||
|}

Gives:

Type NATO codename Class Role Date Total Notes
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 Fishbed Jet Fighter 1959 11,496 Also produced in India and Czechoslovakia.
Mil Mi-6 Hook Helicopter Transport 1957 925

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in non-standard formats.

maintenance

This list format is a temporary holding place for lists under maintenance to change the column format.

It has no defined format but is intended to vary subject to the particular lists undergoing change.

It also adds the article to Category:Lists of aircraft in maintenance format.
