The 2018 Hegoalde vice presidential assasination occured on 23 October 2018 in the Zamalloa Hall in Hegoalde, when five protestors detonated bombs wrapped in rainbow flags near Vice President Amaia Sarasketa during a speech. The intended target, VP Amaia Sarasketa, died in the bombing along with 62 other victims and all 5 perpetrators.

Failed car ramming
A sixth suspect who has not been named attempted to ram a black 2010 Kaiet Tors vehicle into a nearby theatre which was used as a triage centre for wounded victims. The attack failed because the car was stopped by a temporary barrier. The vehicle managed to turn around and was seen driving on Highway A1 to Etxebarrea. The suspect was arrested just after exiting Hegoalde thanks to civil vigilantes.
