| Humans first settled Waldrich between the 10th and 11th centuries BC, at the end of the {{wp|Last Glacial Period|last ice age}}. During the early middle ages, the {{wp|Germanic peoples|Waldic tribes}} inhabiting the region began to organize into several {{wp|Petty kingdom|petty kingdoms}}. In 759, [[X]] of the [[Kingdom of X]] unified many of these kingdoms under the [[Waldian Empire]], which ruled most of Svalland and northern !Europe at its territorial peak in the 9th century. The empire fragmented in 1031, and control over Waldrich passed to the successor state of [[North Waldia]]. The [[!Reformation]] of the 16th century divided the realm along religious lines, with the nobles of the southern kingdoms converting to [[!Protestantism]] in defiance of the [[Waldic Catholic Church]].
