The Democratic Republic of Usezoya (Ludic: Демократическая Республика Узезоя), commonly referred to as Usezoya, is a moderately sized nation located in northeastern Belisara. The country borders Ludvosiya to the west, Velikoslavia to the west and north, while to the south lies the Vornean or Ludic Sea and to the east lies the Trіŝina Sea. Covering 621,440 sq km, Usezoya contains a subarctic climate on the southern coast while the northern stretches, dominated by a number of rivers as well as the Panag Mountain Range, is generally tundra. The national capital is Nikodiansk, with the city of Sely largest by both population and land area.

The majority of the country’s 19,000,000 population is located along the southern coastline, where relatively warmer waters and proximity to Mesogeia has encouraged greater growth and immigration. The eastern coast closely follows in this concentration, while the northern tundra is sparsely populated. Generally Usezoyak planning, as well as cultural pressures due to defense and logistics, has led to the majority of the population living in centralized urban areas. Even in northern areas this trend holds, with the majority of a county’s population located within just a handful of settlements while vast portions of the land remains relatively uninhabited.

Linguistically the country shares many aspects with Velikoslavia, having Ludic as the official language with a minority speaking Zamorodnian as a primary language. While regional dialects exist, especially in the northern areas such as Panagyuchik and Zvevo, national programs have largely unified language across the country to the point where communications are unimpeded and special concessions are unnecessary.

Usezoya is a federal republic with distinct executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The ‘state’, or provincial, level comprises 27 Polkys and one federal district which is managed by the military. Domestically, Usezoyak politics can be characterized by a decentralized, provincial rule with few federal oversights save for general orders outlining desired developments, quotas for habitation and economics, and such focuses. In terms of foreign relations, Usezoya has cultivated twin avenues which it pursues simultaneously. On one hand, the country can be considered militaristic, building cooperative alliances with Velikoslavia and Mesogeia in an effort to be irreproachable by the historical foe, Ludvosiya, while on the other hand Usezoya has embarked on a policy of détente towards Ludvosiya. In recent years, politicians have leaned more on the latter policy than the former. Generally speaking, Usezoyak politics are focused upon regional stability above most other aspects.

The Usezoyak economy can be characterized by a developmental state with strong protectionist leanings toward domestic manufacturing. While it has significantly developed separately since independence in 1834 from Velikoslavia and Mesogeia, ties to the former country have significantly influenced the country’s growth. A majority percentage of factories and industrial centers have their roots in the production of secondary components for Velik military vehicles and civilian products, as well as smaller scale shipbuilding on the southern coast. Shipping companies operating from Sely and Yahomove practice a fairly brisk business as well, connecting several eastern Belisaria nations to the Malaio and southern Ochran nations.

Government and politics

One of the first democracies in eastern Belisaria, Usezoya today bears many of the same systems as it did with the end of the Popular Revolt in 1834. The country remains a democratic republic, distinctly lacking in formal political parties and the delineation between such during elections, with separate elections for the President and Vice President held every five years. A unitary Parliament, known as the Senate, governs legal disputes in the drafting of new laws and amendments made to the Constitution. Interpretation of law is restrained to the Central Court, whose members are drawn from common court justices and who are elected by agreement of the President and Senate.

Comprising 27 Provinces, referred internally as Polkys, and one Federal District, the island of Olszgoszcz, the nation is widely considered to remain highly decentralized with the majority of executive powers for actions affecting local Provinces laying within those same Provinces. Legally, however, Federal Law is known to supersede Provincial Law, though the topic remains contested well into modern days. A key issue is the federal government’s avowed secular stance, which is outlined in the first sections of the 1835 Constitution, as many Provinces who have majorities of Zvevo Traditionalism, Zoyist Naturalism, or Aletheic Nazarism have made irregularly periodic attempts to uplift these in comparison to others.

Military

The Usezoyak Armed Forces, an all-volunteer standing force of around 40,000 active personnel with 30,000 reserves, consists of the Usezoyak Army, Navy, Air Force, and Territorial Defense Force. Peacetime operations consist of participation in international operations and civil disaster relief. In wartime, the military forces emphasize the use of air mobile forces to maintain momentum in the war of maneuver, with the more heavily armed units providing bases from which they might pivot from. Naval forces are expected to engage enemy supply lines and disrupt amphibious landing forces, as well as provide support to ground units. The Territorial Defense Force operates as a mainly reserve branch intended to support civil disaster relief and national defense only.
