000 (emergency telephone number)
000 is the primary national emergency telephone number in Lisander. It's run by National Emergency Service (SNE), and attends the entire nation.
History
In 1959, Lisander National Emergency Service established 000 as the emergency number by SNE and Telecom Lisander. The number was chosen because of the established use of 0 to access the local telephone exchange and 00 to access the telephone exchange for international numbers.
When the technology for Speed Dial reached Lisander, in the seventies, the population was instructed by the government to assign the emergency number to the position "9" on the dial of its phones. A long press on 9 from any phone was enough to contact the national emergency services. To make people easier, 999 was also assigned as an alternative number. Later, 999 was removed as an emergency number, because currently all the mobile numbers musts start with 9. With the adoption of GSM Sim Cards in the end of the nineties, 112 also became a possible number. Later, in order to allow for foreigners to get emergency services ASAP, the numbers 911 and 110 were added too.
Calling 000
000 is a free call in Lisander. Also, all carriers are mandated by law to redirect 112, 911 and 110 to 000, so all of these numbers will reach a single central. An operator will then route the caller to the appropriate service, based on the location of the number based on CallerID or GPS location (if the caller allows it), the language spoken and the reason for the call. The entire process is expected to take no more than 40 seconds.
