The Communist Dictatorship has ruled over Gjorka since the revolution in 1920. However, in 1960, when Supreme Commander Aflons Otto took office, the dictatorship was skalled up. The Secret Police nearly doubled in size. A purge of nearly 500,000 people who were suspected of treason followed soon after. In 1987, he announced that the borders would be closed, with no trade in or out, due to increasing rates of people leaving. The economy crashed soon after, and the price of bread rose to nearly 1.5 million Grundars, from just 5 Grundars. There was frequent riots in the street, and eventually, the police began to join the rioters. This all came to a close in 1989, when the Gjorkan Army and Air Force refused to stop any rioters, and even armed some of them. They entered the outside of the Palace of the People and began protesting. Their leader, Parlin Lugamendier, gave the government 1 hour to surrender. Eventually, military leader Khuo Jurgen joined Parlin in his call. All 102 government workers left in the building were ordered to leave and were arrested by the military. The Navy offered to support the Supreme Commander until the end. However, the Supreme Commander ordered them to stand down. When the 1 hour deadline finally came, three gunshots were heard. The Supreme Commander, His closet advisor, and the Secretary of the Secret Police all had killed themselves. The people stormed the palace and stole everything inside. In the ensuing riots, 89 people were killed. The New Transition Council took power and drafted a new constitution. Parlin was chosen to be acting chairman, and was elected to the position a year later.
