The 2008 Newreath Presidential Election was held on November 10th, 2008. The Republican Nominee, incumbent President Matthew Dawson, and his running mate, Vice President Branden Nielson, were elected to a second term. They defeated the Liberal ticket of Governor Kayden Wells of Cascadia and Representative John Thomson of Midland.

As the incumbent president, Dawson secured the Republican nomination for President with no opposition. Due to his popularity across the nation and within the Republican party, Dawson faced no major or minor challengers and as such, the Republican Party in many of the states decided not to hold primaries and instead automatically declare Dawson the winner of that state's primary. The Liberals experienced a relatively uncompetitive primary between Governor Wells of Cascadia and Lauderdale Senator Michelle Danes. Wells managed to gain a substantial lead in the early states which, by West-Friday, meant that Senator Danes was no longer competitive. Many political commentators speculated that the small liberal field was due to President Dawson's substantial popularity with many liberal heavy weights not wanting to fight a "losing battle".
