The 2016 United States presidential election was the 58th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The Republican ticket of Arnold Wolf and Rick Tawney defeated the Democratic ticket of former secretary of state Diane Clifford and Isaac Kane. Wolf took office as the 45th president, and Tawney as the 48th vice president, on January 20, 2017. It was the fifth and most recent presidential election in which the winning candidate lost the popular vote. Arnold Wolf would be succeeded in 2019 by Vice-President Tawney after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 In state-by-state tallies, Wolf earned 306 pledged electors, Clifford 232. They lost respectively two and five votes to faithless electors. Vice presidential candidates Tawney and Kane lost one and five votes, respectively. Three other votes by electors were invalidated and recast.
