Toaru Kagaku no Rērugan, also known as A Certain Scientific Railgun, is a Zhiguryian manga and anime series written by Kozuma Kamachi and illustrated by Motoi Ruyukawa. It is a spin-off of Kamachi's earlier light novel series, A Certain Magical Index, and is set in the same universe.

The series follows the adventures of Mikoto Misaka, a powerful electromaster who attends Academy City, a highly advanced city with a population of over two million students, most of whom are espers with various powers. Mikoto is a Level 5 esper, the highest rank attainable, and is known as the "Railgun" due to her ability to manipulate electricity and fire it off like a projectile.

The manga was first serialized in Dengeki Daioh in 2007 and has been adapted into several anime series, as well as a video game. The first season of the anime aired in 2009, with subsequent seasons airing in 2010, 2013, and 2020.

Toaru Kagaku no Rērugan has gained a large following for its compelling characters, intricate plot, and well-developed world-building. It explores themes such as power, morality, and the consequences of scientific advancement.

The main protagonist, Mikoto Misaka, is a fan favorite and has become one of the most popular characters in the anime/manga community. Her relationships with other characters, such as her best friend Kuroko Shirai, her roommate Ruiko Saten, and the protagonist of A Certain Magical Index, Touma Kamijou, have been a major focus of the series.

In addition to the main anime series, there have been several spin-offs, including a manga series focusing on the character of Kuroko Shirai, a light novel series titled A Certain Scientific Accelerator, and a mobile game titled A Certain Magical Index Imaginary Fest.

Toaru Kagaku no Rērugan has received critical acclaim for its storytelling and character development. The series has been praised for its ability to balance action, drama, and humor, as well as for its unique and well-realized setting. It has won numerous awards and has been a commercial success, with over 10 million copies of the manga sold as of 2021.

Overall, Toaru Kagaku no Rērugan is a must-watch/read for fans of science fiction, action, and adventure. Its compelling characters, intricate plot, and unique world-building make it a standout in the genre.
