Early life

Born in a middle-class area of the City of Industry, his father Muhammed Tayyip Yilmaz taught Turkish at a high school in the poorer part of the same city and was active in teachers' union matters as well as being highly critical of the government (and a reputed Communist). His mother (Aisha Yilmaz) was 18 years old. He attended a Grammar School in the City of Industry until 2003 when went to Madinat Al-Islam University to study History, graduating with a 1st Class Degree in 2006.

Military service

After graduating University in 2006 he joined the Royal Sharifistani Army as an officer cadet (placed at the Royal Sharifistani Army University). He graduated the Master of Military Science programme in 2007 and then joined the Royal City of Industry Rifles, where he fought in Afghanistan and attained the rank of Captain. As a Captain he won the Distinguished Gallantry Medal for rushing into a suspected terrorist base without back-up (wanting to see if it was safe for his men). He left the Army in 2011.

Teaching career

After leaving the Army in 2011, he studied for a three year Master of Education degree which he achieved. He then taught History for six years in a Grammar school, becoming respected and being active in union affairs.
