The Home Fleet (French: Flotte métropolitaine, literally Metropolitan Fleet) of the Aininian Navy is a theatre-level formation, and the oldest fleet of the modern Aininian Republic's navy. It was created on 9 December 1795 when two Antelopian sloops-of-war and a brig manned by a largely Aininian crew mutinied and joined the revolutionary cause. Further captured and defected vessels as well as hastily armed civilian maritime craft were quickly pressed into service against the Royal Nevan Navy and the Antelopian Navy over the course of the subsequent war. The fleet saw quick expansion after the establishment of the Aininian Republic and played a decisive role in the Jasper War against the Antelopian and Unolian navies. After the return of peace, the Home Fleet became engaged in several colonial expeditions in the Nautaryas, establishing the colony of Concordia and later providing support to the conquest of Nautarya.

During the first half of the 20th century, it saw action in the Second Great War and played a major role in the defeat of the Chorean Navy, being involved in the Chorean and West Nautaryan campaigns. The fleet's size was severely reduced after the end of the war, and in 1951 was reorganised so that its constituent squadrons became administrative units instead of tactical ones, having the effects of causing the fleet's largest tactical formation to become the carrier battle group ("CVBG") and the battleship battle group ("BBBG") and causing a sharp decline in the amount of squadrons in the Aininian Navy. It played a major role in the Concordian War, transporting troops and imposing naval supremacy over the Nautaryan Navy in the Battle of the Nautaryan Sea.

Today, the Home Fleet is the largest fleet in the navy by number of ships and has four squadrons under its command, as well as one of the navy's six carrier battle groups and significant sealift and amphibious assault assets. Contrary to popular belief, not all warships in Metropolitan Ainin belong to the Home Fleet, with many small vessels not being part of any fleet and instead directly answering to Aininian Home Command.

Administrative

The first-level administrative divisions of the Home Fleet are the four squadrons under it. They are as follows:

  • Capital Defence Sector
    • 1st Destroyer Flotilla
    • 2nd Destroyer Flotilla

The following warships were assigned to the Home Fleet as of FY 2012:

  • 1 aircraft carrier
  • 4 ballistic missile submarines
  • 12 attack submarines
  • 9 amphibious assault ships
  • 5 cruisers (out of which one is disarmed and one is actually a rock)
