Aleksandr IV (Aleksandr Edward George; Born 21 June 1993) has been King of the Kingdom of Geordinia since 19 December 2015. His Majesty, King Aleksandr IV is also the Head of the Church of Geordinia and Emperor of the Realm. He became King upon the death of his uncle, King Filip II.

Aleksandr IV was born in the reign of his grandfather King Aleksandr III, and was named after him. At the time of his birth he was 3rd in line to the throne and was expected to move further down in years to come. As a result, Aleksandr was not expected to inherit the throne and spent his early life away from the public eye along with his parents and siblings. Due to many in the Royal Household not expecting him to inherit the throne, Aleksandr was not given the education intended for a King but instead an ordinary education in the most prestigious schools in Geordinia. After turning 16, then Prince Aleksandr enlisted in the Royal Geordinian Navy and attended the Royal Naval Academy for Officers training. Upon completion of the course, he enrolled at Hadelberg University and graduated with a degree in History. Upon completion of his studies, Prince Aleksandr returned to the Navy and also participated in royal events. In 2012, Aleksandr was made the Duke of Gryphon and was entered into the Most Noble Order of the Phoenix.

Early Life

Prince Aleksandr was born in Constance House and was baptised in the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace days later by the Archbishop of Portland. His godparents were: his paternal great-grandmother Queen Frigga the Queen Mother, his grandparents King Aleksandr III and Queen Christiana of Geordinia, his maternal grandparents the Duke and Duchess of Anders, his youngest paternal uncle Prince Michael and his maternal aunt Countess Louise of Bjerged.

Aleksandr Edward George's names had significant historical meaning. His first name, Aleksandr, was in reference to his grandfather, then King Aleksandr III. Edward was after his great-great-great grandfather King Edward VI and George after his uncle on his mother's side.

For the first 3 years of his life, Prince Aleksandr was raised in his family home of Constance House; one of the State Houses along the Mall. Aleksandr and his siblings were not cared for by nannies, instead their parents were much more involved than previous royals had been.

Reign

Ascension and Coronation

Aleksandr's eldest paternal uncle ascended the throne as Filip II upon the abdication of Aleksandr's grandfather in 1996 due to health complications. However, later that year Filip revealed his desire to marry a divorcee. Geordinian Government Officials and members of the Church of Geordinia advised Filip that for political, religious and legal reasons he could not marry a divorced woman and remain King. Filip II then, by Imperial Edict, changed the Royal Marriages Act (which barred divorces from marrying into the Monarchy) in order to marry. This, with many other events throughout Filip II's reign, including the infamous dismisal of the 2001 Conservative Government, led to a rocky relationship between Crown and Government as well as a deterioration of popularity in the Monarchy. In 2002, Aleksandr IV's father, Prince Edmund, abdicated his singular individual right to the throne in protest of his elder brother's actions, meaning that Aleksandr became the next in line to the throne. In 2015, Filip II died of a heart attack and so Aleksandr Edward George ascended to the throne. In order to signal a change from the ways of his eldest uncle, Aleksandr Edward George chose to keep his forname and use it as his regnal name and so he became Aleksandr IV. Due to English being the predominant language in Geordinia, Aleksandr is often spelt Alexander and is used as the de facto spelling.

Early Years

Public perception and character

At the time of Filip II's death, the Monarchy was at its lowest point in popularity since the civil war, however, since the beginning of the reign of King Aleksandr IV, the monarchy's approval has recovered and increased. Many account this to Aleksandr IV's desire to bring back certain traditions, keeping to protocol and distancing the monarchy from the media and gossip.

Finances

Titles, styles, honours, and arms

When Aleksandr was born, he was automatically granted the title of Prince of the Realm as a child of a son of the Crown Prince. In 2012, Prince Aleksandr was granted the additional title of Duke of Gryphon by his uncle, King Filip II. This was due to the fact that Aleksandr's father had abdicated his right to the throne in 2002, therefore making Aleksandr the next in line to the throne when his grandfather abdicated and his uncle became King. As Aleksandr was not the child of the sovereign, he was the heir presumptive, not heir apparent, so would not be granted the title of Crown Prince.

When Aleksandr IV became King, he automatically inherited the titles that belonged to the Crown. As his uncle, the late King Filip II, had no heir, Filip's titles also merged back into the Crown. Aleksandr's own title of Duke of Gryphon also merged into the Crown upon his ascension.

14 August 2012 - 19 December 2015: His Royal Highness The Duke of Gryphon

Arms

From his birth until he was made Duke of Gryphon in 2012, Aleksandr had no individual coat of arms. Instead, whenever a coat of arms was necessary for him, a coronet of a prince was used. When Aleksandr was made the Duke of Gryphon, King Filip II asked the College of Arms to create and grant Aleksandr his own arms as the Duke of Gryphon. Aleksandr used them until he became King in 2015 when he took up the Royal Coat of Arms. In 2013, the City of Gryphon officially changed its coat of arms to that of the Duke of Gryphon's in honour of then Prince Aleksandr.
