The Federal Directory, also known as just the Directory, is the four-member council that acts as the collective head of state and government of the Amrelian executive branch. The Directory is elected by the two houses of the Amrelian legislature, sitting together as the United Federal Assembly, to a four-year term. One member is chosen as the First Consul, who is the highest ranking government official. The First Consul chairs meetings of the Directory and carries out certain representative functions similar to a head of state in other countries, among others. A Vice Consul is also chosen. These two positions rotate yearly until each of the Directory members become First Consul and Vice Consul.
