The Arabin Department of State (DOS), commonly referred to as the State Department, is a federal executive department responsible for carrying out Arabin foreign policy and international relations. On March 10, 2020, the Department of State took on the responsibilities of the Department of Foreign Affairs after President Lona Freeman dissolved the department. The department is led by the Secretary of State, a member of the Cabinet who is nominated by the President of Arabi and confirmed by the Senate.
The State Department is headquartered on the Henry K Crow Building, a few blocks from the Capitol Building in the District.
Department of State
History
The State Department was created in February 1839 by Patrick Owens as the first federal executive departments. It is the oldest department in the Arabin federal government. From 1839 until 1875 the department handled all foreign affairs until the Department of Foreign Affaris was established in 1875. The department eventually was dissolved in 2020 and all foreign affairs was once again assumed by the Department of State.
Functions
The Department of State is responsible for foreign policy and relations, foreign assistance, foreign military training programs, countering international crime, and a wide assortment of service to Arabin citizens and foreign nationals seeking entry into Arabi.

The Secretary of State is the senior official of the federal government of the Arabi and the head of the Arabin Department of State. The secretary of state's duties are primarily concerned with foreign policy, and they are considered to be the Arabin government's minister of foreign affairs.
The current Secretary of State is Charles Knox.
Duties and responsibilities
The Secretary of State oversees all the functions of the department and reports to the president almost daily to keep the president informed at all times.
