Arcadian – Arcadian

Arcadian (Arcadian: ·𐑸𐑒𐑩𐑛𐑰𐑯𐑴𐑕, romanized: Arcadinos, pronounced: IPA: //ɑːrˈkeɪ.dɪ.noʊz//) is a language primarily spoken on the Arcadian Peninsula in eastern Laurentia. While traditionally classified as under the Arco-Yawanan language family, Arcadian includes signifigant later influences from the East Laurento and Peninsularan languages. Some influence has been noted, particularly in the West, from the Sino-Laurentian family, though it is unknown how much of this influence is innate and how much is the result of popular cultural influence.

Arcadian is the native language of over 133.2 million people, and over 200 million people worldwide are able to speak it. It holds official status in both West Arcadia and East Arcadia, along with minority status in Joseon and the Two Prestonias. The divide between the two Arcadias has led to the establishment of slightly different norms. In general, the eastern dialect is more archaic, uses less foreign loan words, and is primarily influenced by Pontese, Arberian, and Tiryetsan. Meanwhile, the western dialect has more modernized grammatical rules and is primarily influenced by Yawanan, Nitoese, and Pandionian in addition to language influences stemming from the West's more integrated global economy. West Arcadian news and government reports have claimed East Arcadia criminalizes the use of the West's standard language with the death penalty, and West Arcadian education and media often portray the East's language as alien and uncomfortable. In contrast, East Arcadian news and government reports often portray the West's language as being tainted and bastardized by foreign influence. In addition to the two primary dialects, there is the unique Joseon and Prestonian dialects. The Joseon is distinguished by heavy influenced from the Federated Provinces while the Prestonian dialect uses eastern grammar but western vocabulary.

As mentioned earlier, the classification of Arcadian is complex due to influences from several language families. While a majority of vocabulary comes from Arco-Yawanan influence, much of the simpler day to day vocabulary is primarily influenced by the East Laurento, Peninsularan, and Sino-Laurentian families. In addition, several grammatical trends appear to be heavily regulated, if not created artificially, indicating that Arcadian's proto language of Proto-Arcadian may have an origin as a pidgin and that is may be better described as a creole, though this is not the majority view. While this theory has caught on in West Arcadia, East Arcadian scholars assert that Arcadian is an independent language free of foreign influence.
