Asal, officially the State of Asal, is a nation in central America. It is bordered by Kecha to the north, Sury to the northwest, Lomba to the southwest, the Misipee Uninhabitable Region (MUR) to the southeast, and Loklan to the northeast. It has a coast with the Gulf of Misipee to the south.

Civil liberties are ranked moderately and political freedom is ranked low in Asal. The Asalian government claims to be structured in a way to work as quickly as possible and reduce the chances of a government emergency during times of crisis, which occurs often with frequent large-scale natural disasters. The government is controlled by the majority political party which is determined by the elected minister. The premiership has been held by the Saturno and Ignis families for over 150 years. Criticism against the government is restricted and civil liberties are not guaranteed by any laws. Despite this, a majority of the population has had low levels of dissatisfaction.

Asal is regularly bombarded by major hurricanes, thunder storms, and tornadoes, making any sort of manufacturing, farming, mining, and any large-scale projects nearly impossible to maintain. All of Asal’s economic activity is in the west and north which mainly produces plant products and textiles.

Etymology

The name Asal originates from the old word Brazil which itself is derived from the now extinct brazilwood tree. Due to migration away from the tropics, Asal is thousands of miles from the original location of Brazil and brazilwood. When Europeans settled the Atlantic coast of Columbia, the largest trade was brazilwood, which led to the common name Brazil. After the End of the World in 2278, Brazilians migrated north settled in America, creating the country of Asal.
